Took an ink sample shot for my pens that are inked. Admittedly most of my ink are from Montblanc, with some Visconti freebies. The MB inks not shown, are I think - Black, Blue-Black, Sepia, Emmanuel Green, and the special theme ones e.g. Love letters, seasons greetings, Ghandi.

Montblanc 60's 149 BB - Montblanc Racing green
Montblanc 100th historical F - Montblanc Royal Blue
Visconti Midi van Gogh F - Montblanc Turquoise
Faber Castell Ambition F - Montblanc Ruby Red
Faber Castell Ambition F - Montblanc 2008 White Forest
Montblanc Agatha Christie B - Visconti Black
Montblanc Alexander Dumas F - Montblanc Royal Blue
Montblanc Fiedrich Schiller M - Montblanc Bordeaux
Montblanc Oscar Wilde M - Montblanc Violet
Montblanc Jules Verne M - Visconti Blue

Of all the MB inks I got here, I like the 2008 White Forest and the Violet best. Both are very rich and saturated ink.

Thanks for mapping the pen/ink/writing samples! The Mb Royal Blue is very sharp.

I suggested something very similar to this to another member today as a competition.

Is that Montblanc Ruby Red the one that has the vanilla scent?

You gotta love the width of that BB 149, how do you like it, as I understand that is a new pen for you?

The Agatha Christie writes great too IMHO.

The Ruby red is a discontinued ink, I'm told. The last batch was made in 2005/2006 and I got this from the boutique here. It's a standard bottle. The colour sort of changes when dried so it's difficult to say exactly what color it is. The one I got has no scent but I understand MB did a ruby red "Love Letter" rose scented ink for Valentine's day special in 2008. The vanilla scented one you mentioned is the 2007 Xmas dark red ink.

I got the BB 149 from another FPN member. It's a 60's transitional 149 as the nib is a beautiful 18k tri-tone narrow shoulder, plastic piston, ebonite feed and plastic screwtop. Some photos here:

Still have to adjust my writing to suit the 149 BB. It's a totally different writing experience compared to the F or EFs.

Your writing is so wonderfully legible! My squiggles are not nearly as impressive.

Haha! I bet you have some alluring aspects of your writing, that's one of the great things about handwriting, everyone's is unique and distinctive.

Nothing makes writing more pleasurable than to have great materials to work with, pen, ink, and paper

What a helpful post. I love the Montblanc Racing Green, and the last one, Visconti Blue. Is it true that the only way I'll get to write with these beautiful colors is if I use a fountain pen? I'm really a rollerball kind of person but the only option is blue or black ink. So many people nowadays use rollerballs, it surprises me that there's not a greater selection of ink colors from which to choose. Thanks for your post. Faith

Unfortunately there aren't that many choices for rollerballs. I was told that Monteverde sells gel refills for Montblanc ballpens. They also have rollerball refills per se. Since you mentioned you use Yafa's, which is Monteverde's distributor, probably you're using it anyways. http://monteverdepens.com/ecatalog/monteverde_refills.html

I am very happy to see that they carry blue-black refills for my MB rollerball, and they are also available with a fine point!. I will contact them tomorrow to order. Once again, thanks for your help. Faith

I have some good news . . . I contacted Monteverde customer service today and explained my dissatisfaction with their prior refills. They apologized and stated they reformulated these products due to numerous customer complaints and will be sending me 6 blue-black refills free of charge. How cool is that?! (I was also told they are working on formulating additional colors for the MB rollerballs - great news!

Awesome!!! Can you please post some writing samples when you get your refills?

He he he I had a similar experience with MB ink cartridges. Once I bought a packet of cartridges from the boutique. Got home found out the sealed cartridges have evaporated by like 40-50%.

Took them back, they refunded and gave me new ones free of charge. So, motto is that if you buy ink, open it up and check before you leave the shop.

What a helpful post. I love the Montblanc Racing Green, and the last one, Visconti Blue.

Unfortunately, Montblanc has discontinued racing green. Very sad and aggravating.

That's an excellent price shandy, I paid twice that amount a couple of weeks ago :banghead:

And I paid $25 a bottle for the Montblanc Violet too :banghead: Which I highly recommend too Faith. If you are going to get one bottle you may as well make the package worthwhile.

The violet is very well regarded as an extremely high quality ink

I was also told that MB violet has been discontinued.
Looks like MB will be re-branding their ink names in the new year or something.
