As many years as I have collected FWIs I have never really looked seriously at the Italian maker Marlen until a friend recently purchased one and I took a closer look.

I will admit up front that I am very impressed with their offerings and am considering this one as my next FP purchase.

It uses a coin inserted into a slot to compress the filling system / sack. Unique in my experience. The coin is stored in the cap crown.

What do you connoisseurs think?

It's going to be between this one and the Nakaya Briarwood. The benefit of the Nakaya is that I can get two of those for what Marlen wants for this one.

e.g. Apollo 11 or the Mount Everest?

Can you explain how the coin refilling mechanism work on these pens?

Yes. You use the coin to insert into the slot in the pen barrel and it compresses the vacuum sac. Release it and the ink is drawn up into the sack. It works like the Conklin Crescent filler.

Yes. The Krones are nice WI's and some of them have rather unique properties like the DNA of Lincoln or Einstein in them somehow. That does not appeal to me, but their design does.

That is very cool. Thanks for sharing this brand. I was looking for other models in the fountain pen hospital 2009 catalogue but did not find any.
