My wish list, well.

The Montegrappa will be with me soon so that one is done! The next ones would be the Omas you already have, I just fell in love with that pen when I tried Glenn's.

Also a Nakay Decapod in Heki-Temanuri. An ebonite "Big Red" as early a model of the breed as I can get!

And it is time for me to have another MB in the stable, I would love to get an older 149 with a nice juicy broad nib!

Now you have hit upon one of the sweetest spots in all pendom! I have a WONDERFUL MB 149 with a B / BB Italic / Stub from 1973. I have the original box / case (as these were the cloth covered metal), the papers, and the original sales receipt. It was purchased at Crabtree and Evelyn in 1973 for the massive sum of $44.00!!!

I am a bit unsure about the actual size of the nib as the 149's nib is so large to begin with, thus the B/BB designation. I believe it to be a broad and not a double broad.

I paid a small fortune for it, but when I saw it had the full package and that the pen had not been used (no ink residue upon initial irrigation) the money came out of my wallet so fast that the friction heat of my wallet leaving my back pants pocket was tangibly discernible! :agree:

I am very glad I purchased it because in my years of collecting I have not seen another 149 B/BB Italic available before or after that. I do a search on Google for one and only 2 examples show up so I believe it to be a bit rare.

You can't go wrong with a 149 with a B/BB Italic / Stub. Its line variation and the ink shading is as good as it gets IMO

For reference, the photo in my signature was written with this pen.

Sorry for the lousy photos. The close ups of the nib were taken several years ago with an inferior camera and the others were taken by the original owner. I will get better ones soon if you are interested in a closer look.

Richard, my goodness, that is exactly it! What an absolute beauty, that nib is perfection! I love it when I hear stories like this, all original all complete, it is a collectors dream come true, I am not suprised at the speed of wallet opening!

You have wonderful handwriting BTW, I love that fountain pens really show the art of handwriting off. I love the backgrounds you use for your photo's, I would love to writing like that one day!

I love as well that you collect old journals. That sort of history, what I call real and relevant history is so interesting. Years ago I did a local BBC radio programme where I went around to old folks where I used to live and taped their stories, their accents were so rich, regional accents seem to be dissapearing and I love the fact that we were able to get some on tape!

I think that is one of the reasons fountain pens appeal to me, there is a connection with bygone days when one uses them, a sense of history that a ball point just can't replicate!
