I got a new pen today, that I had ordered. I got 25% off with full MB warranty on a 149.

Anyway there is nothing to indicate it is a OBB or an OBBB nib. I personally can't say.

Here is the nib, so maybe some of you experts can chime in with a few chords of wisdom :jam: :jam: :twit:

Thanks guys that helps and makes me feel a lot better.

I've been writing with it and it lays down such a great line of ink.

I'll show you if your promise not to laugh at my handwriting.

I'm right handed and an oblique nib that is cut as shown above is suitable for right handers.

At least an OBB Steve but I would have to see it next to a medium nib from MB if you have such a thing! I bet that nib is buttery smooth with lot's of feedback, just like all the 149 nibs:thumbsup:

BTW, it is almost a sin not publish a picture of the rest of the pen:dummy::chuckle: The 149 is one of the all time great looking pens. I know one will be mine someday!

Congratulations and that is a great discount you got!

Oh yes, let's see a handwriting sample..Heck, if you can endure my scrawl..

Very nice pen. I have owned a Mont Blanc ballpoint for over 20 years......love it...trush you will enjoy yours as well.

Here is a (poor) sample of the pen and a comparison with the Montblanc book (warranty manual) from many years ago when they did display the O3B as a standard nib. Now of course it is a special order and only available on the 149.

Steve,

As there is no standard measurement scale for what makes a BB or BBB, it is hard to really tell what you have there. I will say at least a OBB for that nib, but as that nib is HUGE it would have to be relative to the nib size. An B in a 149 would be equivalent to a BBB in a Parker Duofold.

Regardless that is a gorgeous writing pen! It looks very juicy!

Looks very good. Well done mate and got a good discount for it!
Didn't they say 8 weeks? They must have DHL'ed it in.

As for the writing, shouldn't the niceties of O3B be shown better with cursive?
I see you'll need to change your writing style Steve :-)

I'm trying to get used to it Richard. This was a quick effort. I've written with it for a very short time.

Notice how the thin and thick line variation in the Montblanc sample "The art of writing." is very different to mine. To get the same line variation as Montblanc one has to have the pen nib rotated 90 degrees to the flat position. It just doesn't work holding the pen in that position and it becomes very scratchy. :thinking.

Really lovely hand writing Steve and an amazing pen, between you Kai and Richard I can feel an early new year purchase coming on and it will be back in the MB fold!

Might be worth having it visit the nibmeister and let him work his magic on it, then you get to have your cake and eat it. A nib like that is worth the effort!

Good points Steve. I see the differences.

It could also be the ink as its consistency has a lot to do with the what a nib lays it on the paper.

Have fun! As you know I have a BI / stub nib 149 and a needle point 149. Now I WANT that OBB /OBBB! You done went and flipped a booger on me! Now where is that extra $500.00 I misplaced? :chuckle::chuckle:

Thanks guys, I know my handwriting is embarassing :banghead:
As I said it was a quick tryout.

I will provide some better samples when I have the time.

I really do love this pen, it was for me probably my most satisfying pen purchase from an end user perspective.

Your handwriting is very commendable and a GREAT match for that nib!:clap:

I am very used to writing fast in taking notes of clients and sitting many exams where getting things down is paramount and writing style is not.

I know if I slow myself down I can do possibly a bit better.

Richard and Shandy, you must do yourselves a favour with one of these O3B's. They are a special order now from Montblanc, but who knows one day they may stop doing that altogether.

It is a juicy writer, but I like that.

I think if I do end up going the new route as opposed to vintage then I will certainly go for the O3B as I am addicted to big fat juicy writers now!:chuckle:

photo of my BB 149 nib. I think sometime between 1960's and now the nib was replated or re-coated.
