Mike, if you're talking OEM straps, IMO, particularly for the 88, gator is the way to go. I believe the PAM88 comes on a honey gator with the requisit rubber comfort strap (don't knock it till you try it... great strap!).

If the AD is throwing in a couple, I'd go for two gators simply because they are horrendously expensive to buy and I'd avoid calf cuz you can get aftermarket calf that's better and more robust than OEM. That said, I'd go for the Antique Brown with white stitch and a black with white stitch. The OEM carbon fibre is also a killer strap and looks great on a contemporary PAM like the 88. Get your basic colours covered and go from there.

Word of advice... stay away from the coramid straps. They only work if they fit your wrist perfectly (from what I'm told). If it's not a 'perfect' fit, it'll be uncomfortable.

Hope this helps.

I would agree with John.
Then you need to find a nice aftermarket strap.
The links in Johns post about the TO GTG, has some great starting points.
The Mario Paci I have is great, but a bit on the pricey side.
I do love the Greg Stevens strap. ( Crazy Horse). I am contemplating ordering the Historic Brown from him as well. His prices are reasonable and he is in the Californai area.
If your not comfortable changing the strap right away, have your dealer go through it with you in his store. It is very easy, just take your time. Sometimes, removing the screws the first time is a bit hard. Not sure if they use loc-tite from the factory, but after that, it is a piece of cake.
BTW, the Greg straps come with sewn in buckles, so cuts your changing time down by a third

I guess you see the pattern starting. The 88 looks dynamite on Gator. Can't add anything more than what Launch and Atomic stated, they nailed it right on.

Good luck!! Can't wait to see some pics!!

Agree that black gator would be the way to go. I personally find calf a little dull, unless its got a rugged/worn look.

Re: changing straps. There are probably a thousand ways of changing them w/o scratching the polished steel. I've found that the easiest way to do it is to place the polishing cloth over the lug (the bit w/o the screw closest to the case) and hold it tight in position - that way if the screwdriver sllips, you won't scratch the case. Changing the straps is v. simple.

I've heard of others creating holes in the bezel protector by the lug screws, and then attaching the protector whilst unscrewing the straps. But that sounds like a hassle to me...

Good luck.

You HAVE to goo with OEM gators - they cost a ton and are the best quality gator you can buy (well.....one of.....I forgot ABP!)

I've always thought the bordeux was quite nice!

djemmtee,

You and I have had a similar run going here.

I started with a Sub then got the Panerai PAM111H, then the SUB LV.

I'm next on my AD's list for the white dial Daytona, now you need to get yourself a Daytona too!

Already next on your AD's list to get the Daytona? Good for you, that was a quick wait. You gotta figure that your AD likely get's anywhere from 4-10 Daytonas per year, so i would imagine that you will recieve one within the next few months.

Me, unfortuantely I turned down a black dial version before the price increase, now I'm still waiting for my white dial and it'll cost me $1K more:dummy: I don't think I would've turned down the black had I known it would cost me $1K more plus a wait of at least 3 additional months:crying:
