Hi

I'm new to rolex's and I'm looking to buy a used like-new rolex zebra edition watch for $40,000.

What would I want to have to look at?
The owner is a friend and has it registered, but does not want to be authenticated at the rolex store because he's afraid about "tracking". And i understand that..

How can I make sure its a rolex? and what are the other things i need to pay attention to?

Thanks for ur help!

MMMM- well if he wont have it authenticated at the rolex 'store' then i would be worried. Registered where? scared of tracking what exactly? If you want the watch have it authenticated at a rolex dealership otherwise there could be trouble ahead. For $40000 i would

Pick a different friend or seller; who will meet you at an AD to have it authenticated!!

What is an AD and where in philippines can i find one?
What is the authentication process? Does it involve looking at the serial number by opening the watch and all that?

I am not sure but check www.rolex.com for the ADs ( Authorised Dealers). Yes it can but not usually as an AD could tell you in 2 minutes if its real or fake, just by looking at it usually.
Show us some pics and we could prob help you on here.

Don't know their reputation. Do some research on them.

Are we being quizzed here ? test driven a bit ? I have a funny feeling about this tread ... could be wrong but TRF has been used for these purposes before . Especially by BNOF ( brand new on forum ) members .

Hi Devil,

Welcome to TRF, If you would like some assistance, how about attaching some photos, take the band off and take shots around the case including the caseback.

I would question the motives of your friend to hide the Rolex from an AD, I honestly would be running very rapidly the other direction!!

Post up some photos and let us have a look.

Welcome! You'd think your friend would be happy to share the details of the watch with you at the AD.

Hi guys!!
Sorry for the delay in responding.. we went to an AD and got it authenticated!! Thank you so much for the guidance.

Here's my only question now lol, and we didn't ask the AD.
My wrist is big and even if we extend the strap 2 points, it will still be small for me. I was wondering if I buy it, would I be able to buy another stingray with diamonds strap (large size) and get it replaced here in Manila, Philippines?
He said he will get back to me, but thought I'd ask you guys too.

Or what's the process to that?
I'm buying it for roughly $32k! :)
