Exact Time in the U.S.

Anybody obsessed with time? Can't imagine anybody in these forums fits that bill. :dummy:

Anyway, found a link to phone numbers in the U.S. where you can call and get the exact time.

There's a number of ways to get the correct time for those (like me) who are obsessive about it. If you own a shortwave, 5, 10, 12 and 15 MHZ all broadcast the time 24/7 from NIST in Boulder, CO. You can sync your computer if you run a WinXP system from your clock settings dialog box. The last tab lets you sync your computer clock to time.windows.com. Be advised the default sync interval is only once a week so if you want it current, manually update it. Even then, there are possibly latency issues that can cause it to be a few seconds off. Additionally, there are tons of small utilities (many free) that will sync your computer clock to the NIST time servers all around the country. The list of IP addresses is available by going to the link for NIST listed above. Latency is much better using those servers and usually a non-issue. Finally, there are many 'atomic' clocks available for around $25-$50 that sync up at least once a day (and sometimes more) to give you accurate time to the second. For myself, I've got all three... go figure :thinking:

The time at the top of the forums is synced with the time on your computer. I am using time.nist.gov to keep my computer updated daily.

So in a nutshell ... the time at the top should be dead on !
