I've got a good buddy graduating law school next month and I'm not NEARLY rich enough to buy him a Rolex so I think I'd like to buy him a nice pen--Montblanc or something. I'm thinking a rollerball is more practical than a fountain pen for regular use. I'm thinking around 100 bucks. Anyone have any suggestions?

Pelikan 600 series rollerball will meet your needs
Better quality than mont,,, IMHO I own many of both
Personally I carry and use Fountain pens daily, but then you are lOOking at $300+

Hmm, that's a tough one for me. I'm not into pens, so I can't help much there. Is he into other stuff?

I think it would be hard to find a Montblanc for 100 dollars. A pelikan or nice Cross would work. They make great pens that look amazing as well.

The 600 series is very fairly priced
Not too small or big
fits in a shirt pocket and exudes German quality
is available in rollerball
pencil and fountain

Pelikan and Mont Blanc are about the same price
Pelikan doesn't have the hype
Rather like the difference between
Mercedes and BMW 20 years ago
You'd better budget about $200 to enter though

Chris,
Mrdi included a link to http://www.fountainpenhospital.com/ - there is a button on the home page called "Gift Finder" - click on it, select "Roller ball" for product type, and select your price range, then have a gander at all of your options. Maybe you will see one that screams out his name!
Good luck!!

Just remember, there is different size refills for the rollerballs. If you bought the Le Grande Rollerball,it uses a refill, slightly longer than the rest.Is says "Le Grande" on the side of the refill.
Mont Blancs are fantastic.I have a Meisterstuck Le Grande Ballpoint and Rollerball.Boheme,gold/red crystal ballpoint too ...

Hmm - budget $100, expenditure $315. Say Chris, you don't by any chance work in government, do you? :chuckle:
Seriously, that's a great gift - I'm sure your friend will enjoy it!

Parker 51 vintage - Fantastic for writing cheques!
Buy a fountain pen with a broad nib - pure class.
Next you will ponder ink colour - bad etiquette to use the wrong one in the UK

there is only one color for me--black. i like the idea of fountain pens, but they get messy and the nib gets all buggered up with ink, or worse--bent.
