Guys, can you look at this please, and tell me what you think?

I have always wanted one of these, and I have contacted the seller, and worked out a Buy it now figure for myself.

Of course I will only meet in person, and have it checked by a local ad, but before I go any further, please take a peek and tell me if the crystal should be sitting this high..

Thanks in advance....

Its on ebay, item number 180172171313

Hi Bob - yeah the cyclops 127 crystal on the 1680 sits real high so that's OK. I do have a couple of niggles about the watch though - It is a little to new (in my opinion) to be in my personal comfort zone for a Red Sub and the bracelet is not correct, non-fliplock, and it really should be for a late Red Sub. Dial looks legit to me but maybe not original to that watch but I may be wrong here....

gmt thanks for your quick response....im going togo ahead with this, as long as the movement is ok (from a ad)

Again, thank you, and I will let you know how everything unfolds.

It looks like a Frankenwatch to me. The clasp is bizarre and wrong and so is the case if it is dated 1978. From what I've read, my red sub was probably one of the last and it is a 1974. Too many warning signs for me.

I have to agree with everyone. That serial number makes it a white to collectors. My guess is a dial swap. It'll be awfull tough getting this one accepted by the collecting community.

Here's the link:

Yes, I agree with ALL the above comments. Serial is much too late for a Red, although dial looks genuine.

Go with your head and NOT your heart on this. After all, these watches are collectable and accept it or not they are investments.

I'm sure your 'buy it now price' is well over $6k, and that's a lot to pay for a watch that's always going to have a cloud around it.

It's going to come back and bite you upon sale. Even though you may think you're not going to sell it, things change and financial situations change, and if you need quick money, that's going to cause you some definite grief.
