I have been in contact with this guy who is running this auction on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250182081434&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

He lives pretty close to where I work and asked him if I could see the watch to try to verify authenticity. He wants to meet in a public place which is fine by me.

He states in the auction that "Theres a problem with the 4130 chroograph movement which makes the movement on the watch temporarily immobile."

Since I am fairly new to this would it be worth purchasing this watch and then having it fixed by Rolex or should I just steer clear?

Terrible pics and way too low of a price. Red flags. My two cents.

If you meet him, meet him at an AD and have the watch checked for authenticity.

Also, a 6 feedback score with none of them recent. I would definitely meet at an AD. If he has a problem with that then I would walk away.

I wouldnt touch it.....how do you sell an expensive watch like that and take such garbage pic's???? With a feedback that low I would also be very cautious of this deal and yes, meet him at a AD to verify everything is on the up and up..my guess is he wont want to do this though.

Most likely this is a fake that arrived broken and he's concocting some BS story to try and save his scam. Don't let your hopes override your common sense!

Uh, for the newbie, what is an AD?

The seller has added some new pictures that may or may not give a better idea.

The thing is if it does turn out to be authentic, how much would a repair be from Rolex?

If it is authentic, it is hard to say what the cost would be.

It would start with a full service, ~500 bucks, and then whatever parts were broken, frozen up, etc. Might require a new movement... My uneducated guess would be from 500 if the service fixed it, to 2,000 bucks if it needed major parts..

Red flags:

1. zero sales of anything, only 6 purchases

2. last 2 purchases come up "not found", previous are CD's and sunglasses

3. the watch has been around long enough for the movement to be "temporarily immobile", yet the hologram looks brand new

4. no PayPal, untraceable payment methods only

I'd pass unless I could have it inspected by a Rolex AD to determine authenticity and estimated repair cost prior to purchase.

OK, I am really kind of enjoying this.

The seller sent me a message saying he would like to meet in a public place such as a jewelry store. I said that sounded like a wonderful idea as there are 2 Authorized dealers in our area. I said I would like to meet at either one (I would certainly pay for his gas to get there) that way we could have 100% authentication of the watch and I would also like an estimate on how much it would cost to repair.

We'll see how far he is willing to take this as I would love to see the look on his face when they tell him it is a fake.
