View Full Version : Mont Blanc Question

I was talking to a guy at work the other day who commented on my Rolex. He liked the watch, but is more into pens (go figure).
Anyway, I mentioned how I wouldn't mind owning a Mont Blanc, but I said I couldn't carry it like I did my good ole trusty Cross pen. I opened my wallet-checkbook-thing to show the Cross tucked away in the fold; I was under the impression that all Mont Blancs where quite robust -- he corrected me.
So, well, now, I'm kinda off to find a pen. I've had the Cross ($20) for many, many years and have never lost it, so I'd feel safe carrying a Mont Blanc in it's place.
The question -- are there fakes? I'm gonna look at eBay due to the fact that I really don't know where any ADs are around here. I just don't wanna get screwed in the process.

Yes! There are fakes. I use the Skywalker ($350 - $750) series and Czar Nikolai I ($1865). Last time I was in Moscow I saw a Skywalker for $50. The pens can cost 10x that. I would advise you to stay away from eBay unless you are buying from a Mont Blanc dealer on eBay. Use the same caution you would if buying a Rolex. My favorite insert other than the roller ball is the fineliner.
Good luck in your search.

I would be very careful buying a Montblanc on-line especially on e-bay. There are as many fakes as Rolexes.
My advice is go to the Montblanc boutique and find the model you like. Just write with a few and see what your style is.
I got the Starwalker cool blue fineliner and with a fine rollerball refill. I just bought my wife the Boheme resin and platinum ballpoint.
Look around for an AD that hasn't implemented the new price structure yet.

If you are in the military or a contractor, AAFES, (the PX) is a MOntblanc AD and has soem very good deals on the Montblanc collection (and no sales tax and free shipping).
Also, I bought my Montblanc on a Airplane while flying overseas. Part of the Duty Free in flight catalog. Turned out to be around $75 cheaper than at my destination in Thailand! (and they even included a coupon to get free engraving, with the address of several Montblanc ADs throughout Asia!)
So far has been a very robust pen. Have dropped it many times, and carried it with me everywhere over the last 8 months.

Montblanc is the most copied pen in the world. It is the Rolex of the pen world. It will be even more so as their prices continue to go up. The november price increase made most of the Montblanc products go up 10 to 14 %.
Be care full if you go to websites. In the US, If they show list prices or discounts on a model, they are not an authorized dealer. Every MB has a serial number on them and if you ever have an issue and you bought a fake or even a grey market, the US repair center will not repair it.
As an AD ,I cant tell you how many fakes I see when people come in to get refills. Montblanc refills will only fit Montblanc. So again be carefull of who you buy from.
Best regards, Mort

Charleston, Atlanta or Charlotte.

Thanks Drowning (and others). I'm in Charlotte about every other month, so I'll have to find a place up there to look. I was at South Park the other day and didn't see any MB ADs; odd.
Didn't have a clue that there were so many fakes out there. I'll skip eBay on this venture. Since I don't know squat about them, it'd be hard to know what to look for.
Thanks again!

The AD in Charlotte is at South Park Mall. Very nice store, larger than Charleston...never been Atlanta.
