Thanks for the video, that was really quite interesting. I also watched it twice! I have two questions, neither of them relevant but I am curious.

First, when Rolex and other watch makers clean the movement parts, using the ultrasonic bath, to all the metal baskets swirl them around? It looked as though the Breitling movement wasn't completely disassembled, as are the Rolex movements I have seen in the service photos. Does the swirling make much difference?

Second, the service depicted looks to be basically on the same par as Rolex's. New gaskets, polishing, lubrication, etc.. Everyone must be slightly different, but are the service prices similar as well?

I'm not sure I completely understand your first question :thinking:...
As far as I remember (when I worked at a Breitling service center) we usta always take the movements apart, with a few exeptions of parts that are easy to lubricate while assembled. The ultrasonic cleaning process is fantastic, since it will really vibrate all the dirt and dry oils from any place in the movement! Rolex uses ultrasonic cleaning equipment as well.

To answer your second question.... the service prices are all similar I think. Rolex is one of the least expensive in the higher quality timepieces. This is because they don't mark up the part as much. They consider this service not as a money-maker, but a (like the name says) service to the owners of their brand.

Yes, I believe you answered my questions rather well, actually. :thumbsup:

What I should have pointed out is that the only ultrasonic cleaners I have been exposed to, made for jewelry and otherwise, did not have any movement or spinning/ swirling action, they were static, with rectangular baskets. Thanks for the great thread, its one fascinating topic!
