Richmond 2.79/gal. for 87 octane but I have a company car and they pay for all my gas. I haven't bought gas in 15 years.
If this turns into an international thread somebody better get their litre/gallon conversion tables ready.

$3.5 is about the right price for a gallon of gas. I say make it $4 so we, Americans, start thinking about economy and utilization.
I am in Asia right now and it is amazing how people here can survive by riding 250cc motorcycles and driving smaller cars (including diesel).

Why make it $4, That only drives up the price for any and all products as they have to be transported before you purchase ANYTHING:thumbsdow

It is not that bad :)
U.S., Australia and Canada are probably the only industrialized countries that have cheap gas. If you look across Europe and Asia, you will see that people pay more than we do. In Japan gas prices are above $4 and they seem to have enough electronics and Rolex watches. The same goes for places like the U.K. and France. Cheap gas is only a dream.
I am thankful that I have a loaf of bread, a bar of soap and no need to kill of mosquitoes that bring dengue. If we are smart enough, then gas prices (as well as gas) will become things of the past within a couple of decades. If we are stupid, then we'll become the next dinosaurs.
Back in the states I filled up for 3.47, regular.

Ouch, that's high. I paid 2.99/gallon for regular in the Philly 'burbs (Lansdale where I work). Luckily my wife and I only fill our SUVs up about every two weeks :) We don't have long commutes to work.

I have been paying about $3.00/gallon for 87 octane gasoline here in the Tampa Bay area.
A large portion of the gasoline prices are the taxes that are associated with each gallon.
If gas prices go down... Then we can all buy another Rolex

In the UK a gallon (Imperial) costs the equivalent of $10.00.
I have recently flipped my gas guzzling Merc ML because I was fed up of the $250 fillups and 22mpg.
I have it from a reliable source the the next batch of road fund licencing (UK Car tax) will have put my car in a proposed $1800 a year banding.
Time to go 50mpg, methinks

Don't go there. I spend 4-5 hours per day in my car and d*m* if it's going to be spent on a 250cc scooter or in a roller skate. But hey, my company pays for my gas so I guess it can go to $5 per gallon and it wouldn't matter to me.
The marketplace will take care of the price of any goods or services; we don't need those geniuses in Washington determining how much we pay for gas. With embedded taxes taken out of gasoline prices we could be back to 1980 price levels anyway.
In Georgia the state tax rates on gas actually are accelerated as the price goes up. :dummy: Go figure. Anyway, $2.88 for 87 octane today in Georgia. Please pardon the rant.

I bought 87 octane for $.999 per litre yesterday for my 4.8l truck and paid $3.05 per litre for race fuel for my 1.8l car. Problem is that the car consumes as much fuel on the track as the truck does on the road :dummy:

The thing is you don't have to ride a scooter all day! We, Americans, seem not to get it at all but what we have in reality is a gravy train. With prices just above to what we are used to we can either start thinking differently and move ahead in the world or be left in the past.
In Colombo you can see plenty of SUVs that you can spot in any U.S. city. The major difference is that those cars are actually used for their intended purpose. Majority of Land Rovers that I see on the street are actually dirty :) They also have TDi engines (diesel). Has it ever occurred to anybody that hauling kids to school in an SUV and then using the same car for grocery-getting purposes is not the best idea in terms of fuel economy?
Most of my co-workers drive cars that are 800-1500cc. They go just as fast in traffic as my car! When it comes to traffic there is no difference between sitting in an Escalade vs a Versa. I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade over here, but we really have to start thinking beyond oil and review our life style. Suburbia can quickly become a thing of the past if we continue to be as arrogant as we are now. While I do not want government to increase taxes to pay for another war, it would be interesting to see what happens if the price really goes up to $4/gallon in the U.S.
Using Twain's words, history does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme. If oil crisis of 1980s did not teach us anything then we are in for a bumpy ride.
