Daytona SS series????

What is the difference that a Series makes, i see there has been a demand for F series daytonas and M Series, what is the difference???????

The year in which they were made. M is the newest. F is about 4 years old or so.

There is at least one difference. Some F-series Daytonas had the socalled "Skinny" hands.

Well, if you want a brand new one go with an M or even a late Z.

Some think that the skinny hands dial is more collectable than the later fat hands versions. Fat hands are easier to read.

No the movements are the same.
I believe that it was a roundabout the 2000 that the movement changed from the Zenith to the ALL NEW Rolex movement.

Yes the movement did change in 2000. All daytonas produced after 2000 have the in house rolex movement caliber 4130

All daytonas produced before 2000 have the 4030 zenith movement which rolex borrowed and modified from zenith

Thanks for the reply. I've always wanted the gold daytona and my wife gave it to me last weekend as a wedding present. I'm trying to get some help in confirming that it is authentic because it has the second hand at 9 o'clock, doesn't have the green sticker on the back and is not as heavy as I remember these watches being. It maybe a used one.

the current movements have the second hand in the 6 o'clock position, while the prior movement (zenith) had it in the 9 o'clock position.

Older watches like the 16523 with the zenith movement has the 2nd hand on the middle left(nine o'clock position while in the newer series like the 116520, its right at the bottom centre(6 o'clock position).

At first I found it strange too as i bought my 16523 after the 116520 and found that the 2nd hands are moving in the wrong place!! :)

Its ok to have a pre-own rolex as long as its a real rolex, its a piece of art! :)

Hi Tzl, although you felt the difference it is not so. The Daytonas from the P-serial to till date i.e. M serial are of same weights.:thumbsup:

I believe you are right.....the older Zenith movements had hollow end links compared to the newer ones that have solid end links......I thought I was going crazy too until I had Rolex Beverly Hills confirm this....for a while, I thought I had after market bracelets for my zenith movement Daytonas.....they re-assured me that they were all genuine!. Hope this helps!.

It is my understanding, don't know to what extent this is true, but....on a side note, the daytona's that are Z series and on-wards have the Parachrome Blue hairspring, and the ones before that we're made in house by rolex just have a normal (non-blue parachrome hairspring), not talking about the zenith movts, talking about when rolex first came out with their own mechanisims for the daytona.....they upgraded the parachrome hair spring with teh parachrome blue hair spring Z series on wards, the difference......not tooooo sure....i Guess..magnetics fields and shock resistance......it would be great if someone could please advise, or lol help me get my facts straight....thanks!

Yes, but some V series still has the old bracelet. If your V series has the new bracelet, then that is the newest of the SS daytona.:cheers:

Hi all.... there is reference above to the different bracelet variances present on a V prefix SS daytona. I've just received a call from my AD saying that my Daytona has finally arrived in stock. :thumbsup: He has confirmed it is a V prefix. When I go there to inspect the watch, what am I looking out for to ensure it is the latest bracelet? Is there anything else I should be looking out for? Many thanks.

Mine is a D serial 116520 and it has the blue parachrome hairspring. I had my AD open and show it to me to confirm. :cheers:
