once that baby comes out in SS, people are going to be lining up to grab it. the ceramic bezel and mazi dial, and possibly improved class will make it the most popular rolex when it comes out in SS, even though its already the most popular

Problem is, it probably won't be avaialble in SS for another 2 years or so, 3 years to be in full supply. So we go through a few more price increases, ect...........question is, do you really spend $8000-$10,000 for a ceramic bezel "tool" Sub 3 years from now? Maybe you do, maybe you don't......but it really makes me think to grab what I can now!

You said it, but if it's going to be over $7K when it comes out, a used 16610 for half that is a much better deal!

i will have to see the black one in person next to my gmt2c and just as importantly see the price. i am worried it will just look like a version with less functions of what i already have.

It is going to be much more expensive for sure and for that kind of money that you will pay you are not getting any functionality

i don't know about you frostie but my gmt2c knocked me out the first time i set eyes on it. last october here in the us it was 5,950.00 plus tax and my ad ordered it for me at 5,800.00 plus tax. it was the second one they had sold and knocked 150.00 off. it wasn't much but i really felt at the time it was the best value rolex offered and i immediately paid them. i am still thrilled with it and certainly am even more thrilled with it now we have the new prices and have seen the new models. i couldn't be happier with a watch if i tried. i still want a brushed bracelet so i do want to see the new sub in person, i just hope i am not disappointed with the price/style when i do get to hold it in my hand.

I for one LOVE the WG Sub. I like the new blue, very much indeed, but it's definitely a 'summer watch'.

Deepsea's a pile of try-hard macho wank though, IMNSHO.

There will always be people who will pay whatever Rolex charges. Rolex knows that perfectly well.

Look at China, they have about 300 MILLION classified as "middle" class income, with the spending power to purchase luxury items such as a Rolex. That is a middle class population approximately equivalent to US!! There will always be people who will pay any price so they can have a "Rolex" on their wrist!

I have the older model Bluesy and I love everything about it. I guess I would have to see the newer version in person to make my final decision about it.

A white gold dive watch?
Puzzling dichotomy. Desk diving at best.

The ceramic sub in SS will certainly get more than passing attention from me, but it's going to be tough justifying moving from a $3900 Sea-Dweller to an $8000 Sub.

I've owned a ND Sub and traded up to a GMT IIc. I love that ceramic bezel and newer face. I'll have to see what the price point is in 3 yrs. I'll be retiring then so maybe I'll make it a retirement present to myself:thumbsup:

i do not agree with the new shade of blue.. more like 'cartoon blue'

Well the the Submariner in SS is really going to be the same watch as the GMTIIc. Simply change the bezel, refinish the braclet and change the dial. The GMTIIc already has a triplock crown. I'm willing to wager it has the same depth resistance as the current sub. The only differences will be cosmetic. The only reason Rolex released the GMTIIc first was so the GMT could have a little time in the limelight.

BTW any dive watch in gold is wanker-riffic. It's like a really awesome hammer made out of crystal. It looks like a really interesting/beautiful version of the original hammer but with all of the function of the hammer removed.

Rolex are going to screw the Sub up. It will never be the same again. Get the current model while you can - when its discontinues the used price on them will steadily rise.

If the blue is darker - not the baby blue - I am all over it and will pay the increased price.

This for me is a no brainer. I am looking forward to it....

I so agree, when the new Datejust came out with the too square case, I thought, this looks bad. The the GMT, with the shiny center links, and no ability to mark minutes anymore, a function which I use everyday. And again, no sale. Now the Sub, with what I am assuming will be shiny center links again. Do any of you know what a barracuda does when it see shiny objects?? You lose fingers!! Just dive in the Keys and you know what I am talking about. Will RSC take out the tooth marks in the watch under warranty?? Will RSC pay the plastic surgeon to re-attach your hand?

DOES ANYONE REALLY DIVE WITH THEIR SUBS ANYMORE !!!!!

While we are at it, the Super Sub? My dealer just got one in, wow! $9,000.00 ?? I think not, plus you could never wear a sleeved shirt with this monster. And lastly, the shiny center links (see barracuda reference above)

I guess I'm buying used from now on:crying:

And don't get me started on the Clown-Master

At least we have gas again in Atlanta

Still love my Rolexes, but I am not happy with where the designs are going,

David

1. The only "barracudas" 99.9999% of Rolex owners need to fear are weird chicks in the bar.

2. Dive? No, not really. Sure you can and some of the more esteemed members here have done so recently, but more as a lark than day to day use. I'd say with complete confidence 99% of Subs never see everything deeper than the kitchen sink. Interestingly, more people probably wear them with a tux then dive with them. As this is the case, dressing it up a tad makes sense.
Don't like the polished center links? ScotchBrite them dull; much easier than the reverse.

Things wrong with the new WG Sub in order of grossness -

1. PCL.
2. Maxi Case.
3. Price.

If only Rolex could update the Sub in a gentle way - the LV Sub with its larger markers and with a ceramic black bezel would do it for me.

How much does an Oris like that cost?

I think this model (47mm, small seconds) is around US$1200, and it is usually easy to get a discount with Oris.
It also comes in black with a rather funky orange lume.

There is a 44mm version (with sweep second hand) which I think is around US$900. I used to own one of these but flipped in a year or so ago - great watch

That is actually quite accurate. The New GMT already has a triplock crown on it. All Rolex is going to do is change the finishing on the bracelet and change the bezel. *maybe* put a glidelock clasp on it.

5yrs down the road when you can ACTUALLY go into a dealer and find one in the case, that is.

I am an experienced diver with 200+ dives - never put my Sub on ... too afraid to hurt it and lose big bucks !

NB: I didn't think of the problem with barracuda/glossy finish, but it is definitely true.

I love white gold, there is just something about having a watch which metal is highly values, same with Platinum.

Stainless steel is very nice to look at but the raw material itself, is of little value!

Exactly. I have a Tag for diving. I could care less if my Tag mistakenly rubs against a reef...
