Guess what, people. I just tried to log onto TURF and found the following message:

"You have been banned. Reason: By moderators vote.

If you think this a real error, you can inform the administrator. Please include the exact error message and the time of occurrence."

Ain't that a kick in the a$$.

I can only assume it was because of the thread I started about the Interesting TURF thread. My, aren't they a bit thin skinned over there.

I've just tried to log on with the same result. Now I can't understand that. What have I done to be banned? In fact I've been very careful what I've said in an effort to try to keep active. What annoys me the most is not one of them has had the decency to contact me with an explanation. There are some good guys over there who I'll miss. Oh well such is life.

Adrian and Ed, sorry to hear the news of your banning, but it is obviously due to the fact that you fellas have stopped posting there and are giving your whole and undivided attention to this forum....not that there's anything wrong with that.

But what can I say? Sheer jealousy on the part of those mods that they have in fact lost two good members; so rather than give you the satisfaction of having left them (which you both had actually done in the first place), they used a bit of "reverse psychology" by banning you to show that they in fact had the LAST word!! Childish, if you ask me.....but do you really care?

Then wouldn't you rather be amongst genuine people who love the both of you for what great guys you truly are???

I don't realy care because life goes on but what realy annoys me is the support I gave that forum. When they asked for donations to keep Turf running I could not use PayPal because of some glitch so I sent a cheque to Sauloon for $100. To get the cheque drawn up in Singapore dollars I Had to make two trips to an area that's not frequented by Europeans, to say the least I was looking over my shoulder a lot of the time. This was the time when abductions were not uncommon. When Eric (Bentley Boy) lost his mother, I set up a donations page on the Cancer Relief site and donated $50. I showed them this devotion, only to be banned for something I have no Knowledge of. It's very poor form in my opinion.

As a follow up, I've been in contact with Ayjay by e-mail. He confirmed I was banned for posting the link to the TURF thread that indicated some dissention in the ranks. Here's the text of my inquiry to him and his reply:

Alan:

I just tried to log on to TURF and discovered I have been banned. No warning, no hearing. May I ask why the mods took this drastic action? Is it because I supported JJ? It seems to me that such drastic action is a bit draconian, particularly since I have never posted anything publically about this whole controversy. I would appreciate an explanation for this action. I am not going to beg to be allowed back, but I do think I deserve to know why you all took this step.

Regards,Edward J. Kessler (Kesslerekessler@ix.netcom.comA)
ekessler@ix.netcom.com

Alan's reply:

Ed,

It was brought to our attention that you have not been an active participant on TURF for some weeks now, but rather that you have been using TURF solely to lurk and obtain information and links which you then post on other public forums which project TURF in a negative way;

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=353 (http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=353)

On that basis, the moderators decided that it was no longer appropriate to continue your membership of the forum and I am sure you can appreciate the reason why.

As it is obvious that you no longer wish to actively participate on TURF, in a positive way, then I am sure that the ban will have no real effect on you.

Kind regards,
Alan

Let me share the latest go 'round with Ayjay. This should tell you where they are coming from.

My e-mail to Alan:

Alan:

Why am I not surprised that my posting of a link to one thread that seemed to indicate some dissatisfaction with TURF would have such repercusions. It is a shame that TURF sensitivities have become so heightened that even an appearance of discontent is taken so seriously and with such consequences. Let me ask you why it is acceptable to publically denigrate Holbrook and The Watch Forum on TURF, but it is totally unacceptable to even point to some dissention within TURF. And as you well know, it is certain mods who are the leaders of the bash Holbrook movement. Can you answer that?

The other thing that bothers me about this whole incident is the apparent fact that there is a tattle tale in our midst. How would you have known about the thread I posted on TRF unless you are a "lurker" there or you have a "spy" reporting back to you?

In the time I was a member of TURF, I gave substantial support to the Forum. I contributed to the financial support to keep it running, I contributed to a fund when Eric's mother passed away, I contributed to Gil's wedding present. And the thanks I get is being banned without warning. That does not speak well of how TURF is run and administered. There seems to be a lack of fairness here IMO.

In one sense, I am unhappy at being banned. Arleen and I met some wonderful people on TURF. When I told her about the banning, she commented to me that now we may lose touch with the people we met and really liked. Hopefully we will not, but if so, that will be an unfortunate consequence of this whole affair.

Regards,
Ed

His response to me:

Ed,

Then tell me, what is the real purpose of you remaining a member of TURF?

Our logs show that you do not make any posts.....you only lurk. You made a decision and a statement a while ago to forego your participation in our forum and that's perfectly fine.

But to merely use your continued membership of TURF to cut and paste TURF snippets/threads on other public forums and/or email them to banned ex-Turfers serves exactly what purpose?

What possible reason have you for doing so? Or do you really believe that constitutes the actions of a positive and worthwhile member of our community? Give me a break.

And I find it most bizarre that you are seemingly bothered by a "tattle tale" in the midst....for heavens sake, that is precisely what you are by your own actions!

As far as denigrating Holbrook, I suggest you do a search on every major watch forum (most of whom have banned him) and you will soon appreciate that it is not unique to TURF.

Ed, as you and you alone decided on the way you wish to conduct your membership of TURF it is rather disingenuous to try and defray the facts.

Regards,
Alan.

I thought my e-mail was relatively calm and objective. Tell me if you read his response as somewhat less than objective. Feel free to correct any misinterpretation I may have.

BruceS
8 July 2005, 01:46 AM
although his banning from turf was totally unjustified. I don't know about the other places though. You might remind Alan that Gil has also been banned from every major watch forum on the internet. Big surprise there.

Honestly, I don't think this is worth carrying on and wasting energy. It really is too bad that a few people on Turf could turn the place into a disaster, but that's what happens when you have bad leaders. You just can't have a credible forum when it turns into a cult mentality and the leaders are publicly denigrating people for months after they are gone.

They have already begun to dig their own grave. Just let them finish digging.

Uncle-AJ
8 July 2005, 02:26 AM
If it's their intention to ban people who lurk and don't post anymore, how many of their 3000+ members are going to get banned? If it's just the guys who are here, then that shows the dual standards of that place. :thumbsdow

I honestly do not understand why everyone is so surprised that these bannings are taking place.

I warned everyone they could and would be next after I got banned. And why did I get banned back in January of 2004. Because I criticized TURF management, specifically Ayjay for imposing a double standard, for misusing his powers as an admin to berate people, to change their posts to make them look stupid and for standing up for the only female member who was berated for posting semi-nude pix of men, when according to his majesty that it was okay to post similar pix of semi-nude or just plain nude women.

I had the guts to suss Gow out not once, but on at least three occasions over the course of seven or eight months that lead to full-blown wars. I finally had enough and took a stand and VOLUNTARILY left the forum, and was banned a week later for quote unquote... being a distrubance to TURF.

I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.

It seems to me that unless you are filthy rich, which means you will be pandered to by the wannabe rich like Stryke, or unless you are an expert boot licker (like the balance of the mods) you have no place on TURF... particularly if you can think independantly and have an opinion and self respect.

I still stand by my theory that TURF management attacks themselves and another forum or two when someone popular is banned to obfuscate the truth and shift blame. How many good guys have been banned, then painted as bad guys by managment there. There comes a point when it cannot be that all bannees are bad... but the management is bad. And believe me... it could not be worse there.

I remembe when DennyKGee got banned. Why. Well he cut and pasted some info from the admin part of the forum into the public part, that had the mods talking smack about prominent members. Then Denny got painted as a bad guy, when he really was not. I know Stryke and Ayjay both campaigned hard to paint me as a horrible person who did all sorts of things to TURF that others were not aware of, which was complete :bullshit: .

I think people like Dman, Bruce, JJ and others can attest to that.

I wear my banning from that place like a badge of honour. If you get banned from there, it means you have a decent head on your shoulders and can think for yourself... and had the balls to stand up to the gruesome twosome.

As for Ayjay being a lawyer... he may have started law school but I have yet to see evidence that he graduated from it. I have had many exhanges with him and thrashed him with logic every single time. He could not argue his way out of a wet paper bag, so he uses obfuscation, mistruths, half truths, double talk and :bullshit: to try and win an argument :blah: . Do the not teach logic in law school. They did at journalism school and I aced it, so who knows if he graduated.

Turf is a black hole on the internet and a cesspool among the WIS. This place and others like it are far more evenly managed and accountable.

I think I am done now. thanks for reading

Finally finding out last night that I was banned made me angrier than I thought. Guilt by association is enough to get you banned from there. Not once did I get into it with a mod or a member.

I contributed to Gil's wedding present and to rich boy's cancer cause, and maybe another one, I don't remember. I just logged off one day and never went back. Originally, I had said that I'd never say a bad word about them in public, but that changed with some external behavoir I witnessed. Maybe that was why they banned me. They have their spys and I'm sure they are lurking here too. So send this back to your leaders!

Or maybe they banned me because I was on JBH's admin team. Oh that's a crime against humanity! It just blows me away how cultish they are. I'm no one special, but I am a liked and respected member of TZ, WUS, and WTF. Two of those forums are the top on the internet, no matter what some poll ranking shows. Can the leadership of Turf say the same? I think not!

It's not in my personality to make attacks on people. That's why I left Turf. I feel badly for being outspoken about them here, but what they have done and continue to do is just dead wrong. My reputation speaks for itself elsewhere. I certainly don't need their approval.

Thanks, Johnny, for a cracker of a post. You took some of the words right out of my mouth. I still remember Stryke bad-mouthing you even whilst you were away.

As you rightly put it, the only thing that really interests them is money and power. I betcha they never have the guts to ban bentleyboy!! Eric (BB) in my opinion is a nice guy, but his last comment about giving a damn as to who was banned or not, came as a bit of a shocker.

When I sent a personal e-mail to Lon (rolexfiend) wishing him on his birthday, I got no response. Why? I can't ever remember having words with him. How quickly the tide of friendship sways.

But in all fairness, there were guys like Singh and Suhail and a few others who stood by me all along and that is something I can never forget.

JJ (and guys) the point you made about Lon didn't surprise me one bit. He and I used to be very close, and anyone from TURF who was there while I was there will know that. We spoke on the phone, he would send my daughter birthday and Christmas cards AND PRESENTS and we exchanged little collectables that each of us knew the othe would appreciate.

However, after a lurk session on turf, I emailed Lon to tell him that I read an old post about me where Eric put a few nails in my coffin. Surprisingly, (or maybe not) I never heard from him again. I guess questioning Eric and what he says is blasphemous or something. And for the record, I was led to believe that Eric and I were good friends too (before the banning). We chatted on the phone, exchanged NUMEROUS emails and he said at one point we had the relationship that will extend beyond the internet and likely last a lifetime (his words). That came to a screeching halt when I got banned. Same deal with my 'friendship' with Harb and Hammer (both of whom had been thoughtfull enough to send presents for my daughter when she was born).

My take on Eric is that his 'semi-literate' act is a facade. YOu don't get filthy rich by being a dummy or by being a nice guy. He also says he doesn't like to show off, yet he drives the flashiest cars on earth, wears the most expensive watches money can buy and has his bootlickers post pix of him showing off on the internet... seems a tad hypocritical to me. :thumbsdow

I learned a hard lesson at turd, and that the proof is in the pudding when people say they're your friends. But I am fortunate to have made some lasting friendships there that carried beyond that forum, to email, to other forums and so on. And I've also made friendships based on JJ's endorsement (thanks man!).

I read in an email from gow to JJ where he blamed the bald loon for 'dumbing down' turf. And yet, isn't it gow who rountinely posts semi-naked pix of women, particularly his obsession woman, Britney Spears? Isn't it gow who rountinely makes fun of people's slips, or berates newbies when they ask 'newbie' questions? Wasn't it stryke who likes to post topless pix of himself 'flexing' his fat? Doesn't sount like "serious watch forum behaviour" to me.

When I joined that place it was a moister version of TZ and I saw it blossom into a really fun place with great guys (no disrespect to TZ, but it is a tad dry, but they stick to the biz at hand... watches). However, as other's gained more watch knowledge than certain others, as some gained more popularity than some others... the public hangings started and it's been in a slow tailspin ever since.

I'm heartened to see so many 'good guys' see the light and come over here and I will be participating here more often because I like to hang with like-minded people.

I say lets show the WIS community that a decent, fun-loving place can exist to talk about watches (and other stuff) without the pomposity, greedy money chasing, pissing contests that are prevalent on other watch forums (not naming names here.... turf  ).

I'm just happy to be here! :rocking:

I met what I thought were some great people there. I've had dinner with Gil, lunch with Alan, and of course others, and had wonderful times at each. Even my wife enjoyed the company of the people we met there. Then all of a sudden things started to go downhill. There was more mean spiritedness, more barbed posts, more negativism, and more hipocracy.

Fortunately we have found this place. If we work at it and keep to our principles, we can (and have already started to) make TRF into the enjoyable forum that the other place once was.

So as the commercial says: "Just do it."

Hey, thanks for the call, padi - it was a pleasant surprise to hear from you! I didn't realise that I'd disabled the microphone on my laptop - sorry about that!

Ah yes, Fernando (sharkman) is another guy we need to get over here. He's always been a wonderful chap and I still remember the incident when Ayjay insulted one of Sharky's new watches and then how Johnny came to his aid by calling one of Ayjay's new IWCs a POS. LOL! LOL! That was some real fun. :chuckle:

I gotta admit, that strategy was planned well in advance and executed to the maximum. It was fun raking him over the coals and I was only too happy to help Fer at the same time. He's certainly welcome here anytime (Fer I mean).

I'm pretty sure I meant Fer. I'm 100% certain it's impossible for his highness to logon here under his usual username. :comeandge

This is a very entertaining thread !

I find it amazing that I am not banned on TURF and lurk on a regular basis. My identity has been kept low key ... thus my survival.

Remember everyone ... One day this forum will rise to the top. WHY? Because of quality members, moderators and ofcourse a level headed "Modest Mark" Administrator.

Isn't that what makes this place so good. We can rag on each other goodnaturedly without getting someone's nose out of joint. Maybe it's the great variety of smilies that helps.

I've resurrected this post because I've been out of the loop for a while (that's an understatement!) and reading this just totally freaked me out (that's another understatement!). What the heck was going on "over there"?? :bullshit: Are they going to refund all your donations?? :chuckle:

Donations? Yea .... get a few refunds and throw them my way. Hehehe, this new watch put a crimp in my spending for a few weeks. J/k

Hey, Tom, it's great to see you posting again. We've been trying to follow your progress from the bits we pick up off your website, but it's great to have you back here live again. :bye:

As for what happened "over there", it's become ancient history now. Suffice it to say it seems there were a few overly sensitive people there who are in control. I really don't want to say much more because that would only stir up some smoldering feelings.

But stick around here. All the best people are here now and this place is fun and lively.

LOL!! And just when you think you have replenished the kitty, guess what happens. That next great looking Rolex comes along and whispers lovingly to you, "Mark, aren't I beautiful? Wouldn't I look absolutely stunning strapped on your wrist? You know you want me. So go ahead, handsome, give in and take me out of store and make me yours for life."

And there goes the bank account again. :clap:
