View Full Version : Robert got his Milgauss!

Today is the day! Well it got here right as expected, in fact I am wearing it right now. Pics uploading now, so I will comment on my first 20 minutes' reaction here.

1. It has weight! This is no Date or Datejust, nor a Day-Date. This thing feels like I have my TTGMTIIc on my wrist. No worried here regarding this being a cheapie watch. Faaaaar from it. Rolex did good with it.

2. I have seen Millie in White (Millie Vanillie?). I have seen Millie in Black, but this is the first time I have seen her with the green Crystal. MY DOES SHE LOOK GOOD. Yes the watch is a she. Only a girl can look THIS good without even trying. So yes, the green crystal IS worth it most definitely. I thought I liked the white, well I do, but now that I have seen Millie GV there is no doubt, she is THE ONE.

3. I set the time and my first reaction was "Hmmm is this am or pm?" Then I realized that it may not even matter.

4. Holy cow is there a lot of plastic on this watch or what! Peeling the protective pieces off one by one, hey can we get something in the directions that address this? Maybe "This Rolex has 342 pieces of protective plastic." That way I can keep count.

5. Millie is much thicker than a Datejust or Subbie. In fact it is thicker than my TTGMTIIc! Holy cow this is my thickest watch yet! Woohoo! The AD does have the DSSD in stock and will hold it for me too if I so wish.

6. The new shine of the MV may be wearing off for a few reasons. The DSSD is out now, and is the "new kid on the block" so will garner the most attention. And one day the DSSD will be old. We did this with Kermit and the SSGMTIIc as well. Our attention spans are short, but the prize goes to those who can wait it out.

7. Already twice this morning I needed today's date only to not find it on the watch. This will take some getting used to.

8. The bracelet has the little extender like on my TTGMTIIc. I like that.

9. The bracelet has shiny center links. I really like that. I wonder if they will dull over time.

10. Now this is neat. When I opened the box I saw date stamps for August 29th. They had prepared it for registered mail when it arrived. And when I open it, the guarantee card has my name on it! So they did hold it for me, for sure. It is so nice of the AD to do that for me, they could have sold it out from under me and they did not.

So here we go:

She is here! Now to go hunt for her by the front door.

Looks like she travels well.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/astcell/Milgauss/IMG_2099.jpg

Now let's unwrap her.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/astcell/Milgauss/IMG_2100-1.jpg

They boxed her up just for me last week! Awww!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/astcell/Milgauss/IMG_2101.jpg

Hmmm, she may be sleeping. I better be quiet.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/astcell/Milgauss/IMG_2102.jpg

There you are!

Now this is a familiar site I have not seen since December 2006. Wayyyy too long a time between Rolexes if you ask me!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/astcell/Milgauss/IMG_2105.jpg

Ooh I can see her under there!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/astcell/Milgauss/IMG_2106.jpg

Well hello there sweetie, I'm your new daddy!

She is like Barbie with all her accessories, except you do not have to buy them :-)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/astcell/Milgauss/IMG_2110.jpg

And I saved over $12,000! It pays to get on lists!

Congrats Robert, awesome all the way :dude:

3 things I really like:

1. Mille Vanille  has to be the best name I've heard for the White Milgauss

2. That lume shot is brilliant, the blue 3, 6 & 9 look terrific

3. You have got to be colour blind, that green car was no match for the beauty of the green GV :banghead: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Nice score Robert.

It seems as though you guys in the US are getting their GVs thick and fast yet my AD still has me at the top of the list (I think) 1 year on.

Beautiful watch, well done.

One question, i live in Canada and will buy from a local AD, only 2 in my entire city, but do alot of people buy all around the US where ever you can get the best deal or was this Millie a special case? You live in FL but bought it from NC.

Thx

Actually I do not live anywhere. I am vacation and this week I am in Florida. Next week is Georgia, then North Carolina, and a few weeks later I will be in Oshawa!

But as I travel I visit an AD and ask to be put on a list. Once thy see me in person they will sell over the phone to me. Many are worried about credit card fraud and will only sell that way if they have met you. So the more ADs that I meet and give my want list to, the better chance that I will get the watch earlier.

The NC store is small and the town is not very rich. I was an exception to the rule when I was there visiting.

Hi, congrats on a beautiful watch!! Just wondering where did the price $6225 come from? I thought the current MSRP is $6575, or am I told wrong? Or, did you AD actually give you a discount on the GV?????!!!!!!! NICE!!!!!

astcell
19 September 2008, 10:27 PM
I wondered that myself! Was there a price hike and they did not use the new price?

Looks stunning and very different from the sports line.........maybe that should be obvious.

On that note, is the Milgauss considered far better suited as a dress watch compared with casual (jeans etc)?

The reason I ask is that its thickness does not bode well for fiting under shirt cuffs and most photo shots I see of is owners in casual dress?

Hmmm.

Well, it's a gorgeous watch and it fits you're wrist to a tee.

Yes, when I am done with my vacation in December I will then find a place to live at that time. I guess you can say I am homeless, but I have income and go to tourist spots. Hmmm what am I then?

And a good guy. And a lucky guy to have such a nice collection.
Great watch.

Awww, thanks Bill. I just have the time to travel at present, and I am sure anyone would jump at a similar chance to do so. In fact I am going to Powder Springs, Georgia tomorrow for one night to seen an old friend again.

In addition to Oshawa I saw NY, DE, VA, DC, MD, WV, VA, PA. Fun!

Robert,

Just picked up the same watch a few days go. Love it! That is why I joined the forum to learn more about this stuff. I have two other Rolex's. An older Midsize and a Datejust. selling the Datejust to quantify the Mil.

Cheers,

hi Robert i just got mine and wow wow im a happy man! its staying permanently on my wrist for the next few weeks atleast.

i just wanted to ask whats people opinions of the watch - i.e. is it one that will hold its value? typically for 2-10 years what are the expectations with this one in terms of it holding its price?

i didnt buy it for an investment, i bought it as i always wanted a rolex, saw this one and thought thats it!! but it would be nice to know it wil hold its value should i need to sell

retail value is £3800 but they are hard to find. there are many around for £4300-4600 now (NOT RETAI)L. Yuu will only get insured on what you paid. Anyway they will try and replace it before paying you cash
