Opps, I should probably put my name in the profile thing.
I'm Dom.
Yeap I like it over there, very different to Australia. My grandma owns a large fuel trucking cooperation along with a few other things. My uncle was kidnapped and held for a $1m USD ransom 10 years ago. After she paid half, they never kept their part of the deal and he was never seen again. So now I can't travel anywhere without a body guard (who doubles as a driver) for my own safety, as I said.....very different to Aus lol.
I bought my PAM off timezone, from someone in USA. It was second hand, but it came looking brand new, was happy with that purchase.
This is my collection:

For Rolex, Jakarta have good value. they discount good. Around 20-23% for Professional models and 23-25% for dressy.
But for Pannie for example, I think here sell a bit up from standard price.

Hello fellow Filipinos. I find it very interesting that there seems to be a collective cultural attractions for Rolexes in the Far East, Philippines included. I know personally that it started with my Mother who brought a Rolex for my Brother and me after graduation. She ended up buying a gold ladies DJ for herself. I recently bought one for my wife (who is not Filipino) and certainly will end up giving my collection to my sons. So I would say that my family is heavily invested. Correct me if I'm wrong but are there any other cultures that do this?

But I know what you mean. My Grandmother never threw away the plastic containers she received from takeout restautants. I'm sure there's a collection of quart size soup tubs somewhere in Kalibo that my kids are destined to inherit.

From Davao, myself. It seems a few of us have connections to this place, which is pretty cool.
My attraction to Rolex started with my dad. He had a TTDJ, which he gave to my brother and another which, he gave to me. Now, he wears a platinum day-date with diamond markers and I got myself a new AK. I also have an Oris Artelier Skeleton, a Breitling Superocean, a Breguet TypeXX and a suunto HR monitor plus a G-shock.
By the way, awesome collection jdH!

Oh it is not that bad, I wear a Datejust and one of my clients wears a all gold Day-Date everyday... actually, seeing a Rolex in the wild is not unusual.... there are so many high quality fake Rolex's here, I do not know how many are real and how many are fakes. Mobile phones and laptops make you more of a target I think.
Am from Quezon City, but since I am a real estate lawyer I moved my office and residence to Cavite last year. Well that is where all the title fraud is these days :twit: Man, I really need a different job.

These are opening together (side-by-side literally) with a AP, Brietling, Chopard, IWC, JLC, Panerai and Omega.
These brands have been available here before through Lucerne, Chronos, Washington Jewelry...
Now each brand gets its own shop
Source of picture (http://pinoyhorology.phpbb24.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=553).
Yup, GB5 is a real watch haven, and I make it a point to visit once in a while. But then, all the boutique shops are still owned by the Yao family of Lucerne and Chronos. Still, it's a really cool place to drool over watches... Although I think they should get sales people who truly appreciate watches.

There is a good deal now on a GMT Master II at Alabang Town Center... Php310,000 that is right now a little over US$6K... but that is because he bought it when the US$1:Php42... now its back to US$1:Php50... so when he gets new stocks it will cost more. Grey dealer... payment at Rolex Center for authentication.

Hey, we better talk about watches, might get booted out of this forum otherwise.
I think it was Oscar who asked, generally, pricing here follows MSRP multiplied by exchange rate. I don't spend too much time at AD's. I only own one watch now an old Datejust, and am actually looking for something to wear when I go outdoors (something Swiss but cheap to replace an old TAG which I gave away).
If you go to a dealer you will find a lot of Day-Date's, Datejusts especially TOG's, Explorer II's, Yatchmasters and two-tone variants of the other sports watches.

TR,
Panerai is going to open shop in Manila this week. How's using Panerai compared to Rolex? Can you share some wrist shots? I'm planning to buy a Panerai.
Both GREAT!!! Panerai too very comfortable to wear.:cheers:
My advice is try Historic models. 111, 112, 183 or 210.
Good luck!!!

Now I live in Hawaii amongst MANY Filipinos with my wife, kids and ang nanay ng asawa ko. Forgive me, my Tagalog is very rusty. I loved the Philippines and would really like to go back again some day. I have not been back there since I departed after Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991. Long time!

Bodybump, Thanks for the repy. Well, the opening statement was from my memory, but I always get "ng" and "ang" mixed up so I asked my wife which was proper for what I was trying to say regarding her mother. :) Yes I like most of the Filipino food except for dinuguan (sp?). I especially like pancit canton and lumpia and of course fried rice. :)
I used to be fairly proficient with Tagalog when I lived in the Philippines, but I have forgotten so much from just not practicing over the years. Now I just get confused trying to keep up, but I watch The Filipino Channel on cable and Wow Wow Wee. :) Of course, the Wow Wow Wee is only for the educational value and not the giling-giling girls in the background. :)

Oscar, I'll have to give those dishes a try. I have had Lechon before, in fact we had a small pig cooked for us here in Hawaii a few years ago. While living in the Philippines I was in the US Air Force, stationed at Clark Air Base in Angeles City, Pampanga. While in the Philippines, I traveled all around the Manila area and the area in and around Subic Bay as well. When I evacuated from the Philippines in 1991 I took a US Navy ship to Cebu and I was there for a day before flying out to Guam. In addition, many years ago I traveled to Panay Island and stayed in Roxas City and Capiz for two weeks. However, I did not see any aswang! :) That trip was an adventure. I flew to Manila and took a passenger ship from Manila to Aclan on Panay Island. Then I traveled in a bangka boat around the island coast until we arrived in Capiz. I lived in the jungle in a "Bahay Kubo" for two weeks. It was great!
For watch content: The military retail store at Clark Air Base back in the 1980s used to sell Rolex watches and you could get a SS GMT Master for around $700 in those days. Sadly, I was not aware of the joy of Rolex watches at that time and did not buy one until many years later.
Taga saan ka sa Pilipinas?

hello jdh,
just curious, who's the authorize Rolex distributor in the Phil., Washington or Lucerne? I also noticed that Washington is always cheaper. But of course, it's much cheaper going to Hong Kong or Singapore and buying your Rolex even if you spend for plane ticket and hotel than buying it here in the Philippines. True, most polticians(not only pinoy) wear rolex:cheers:, in my opinion by wearing such shows power and wealth(mostly TT/YG DDs and some younger generation go for TT/SS Daytona). Filipino-Chinese businessmen or professionals love it too. We Asians are the top customers of rolex, and that's a fact.:agree:
Yesterday i went to greenbelt looking for shoes(an outlet of Sledgers), I saw 2 chinese looking filipino in their early 40s fitting a business kinda shoe, both of them in rolex all TTs, Daytona and DD. I then proceeded to the newly opened outlets of high-end watches (at JLC), a not so young guy(late 20s 0r early 30s) just picked up his Limited Edition Master Compressor Extreme Chrono in Platinum only 950 made worlwide, about Php450-500K.:smokin::smokin:
A personal observation;
Not to put down our kababayans but people in general tend to identify rolex or omega pretty quick as an expensive watch(for the rich).
But not too many have an idea about Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Girard Perregaux, Audermars Piguet, JLC, A Longe & Sohne, and many more high end watches with price ranges at US$ 5,000 to a whooping $200,000 a piece.:crying:
