Cody... I should post more about what? Every question that's asked gets an answer by somebody that knows...
You guys usually don't need me! If there would be something that ONLY I can answer, pm me and I will gladly help if I can. Like the jewel thing... I didn't know until I actually went and counted the damn things myself!
So if there is anything like that that you would like me to post about, let me know...

As Nick requested, here's some more "history" on me!
I was born and raised in Belgium (I speak Flemish). I went to watchmaking school in Antwerp in 1999, at age 19. After 2 years I was considered a watchmaker, but I desided to do an extra year to specialize in modern chronographs (like Valjoux 7751). I also did an internship that year at ETA in Grenchen, Switzerland. I graduated first of my class in 2002. Right after school I started working for Breitling Benelux. Soon after I got married to my American (military) husband, we moved to the USA in 2003. In San Diego California, I started working as a watchmaker for an independant Rolex service center. I worked there for 1.5 years and then we moved to Arizona. I work here for an AD for Rolex, TagHeuer, Omega, Baume&Mercier, etc.
In the mean time I went to the Rolex training in Pennsylvania.
I consider myself a pretty skilled "modern watchmaker", meaning I don't know much about vintage... But for the time being I don't feel any desire to learn about them, since it seems way to complicated for my simple mind
Hope you guys quit assuming all watchmakers are men!
Triplock, I am not very clever but I can push two buttons. :chuckle::chuckle:

Vanessa, THANX for the insight into learning to be a watchmaker and looking at your PICS was very interesting. If I could do a career do over I would probably become a watchmaker. I find it very fascinating and looks to be a satisfying career choice(working on something different each day).

Did you wind up with leftover parts?
I did actually, because the previous "watchmaker" used a non-Rolex screw on one of the parts, so I had to replace that with a genuine one. So I was left-over with a "bad" screw! :dummy:
Not a bloody RADO, I hope!! :dummy::rofl::rofl:
Only thing I do with Rado's is replacing batteries! So don't worry JJ!
Where do you do your watchmaking? Jewelry store?
As a matter affect I do, and I love it, because it gives me the chance to get out of my workshop and talk to the customer. Explain to them face to face what exactly was wrong, and what I need to do to fix it. I also let them know which parts were replaced. Most customers don't care, but there are a few that are very interested!

You're welcome. If I could choose a new career, I would probably do the same... Even though the money isn't very good, it relaxes me to work on watches and I really take pleasure in a time piece running well after I serviced it!
It does tend to get boring sometimes though, because I do the same all the time, really.
Let me know if there is anything you would like me to write about!

I agree with Tempo. Vanessa, I'm in San Diego, (Why did you leave my city?, :crying: ) there is only one watchmaker that I'm aware of that's any good around here, Brian at BB in UTC. But I come to AZ often and would like to have you take a look at my Daytona. I'll PM you to find out where you work and if it's OK with you, will drop off the watch my next trip.

I must be one of the lucky ones, Vanessa is only a 20-30 min. drive from my house. I am so thankful to have found a competent watchmaker in my local area, I have already told her she can never retire. :chuckle: I will never send my watches to a RSC, Vanessa does just as good of work, and I know were my watches are at all times.

Continuing on....
If you care to write something, I'd be interested to know your opinion of the Rolex movements and how they compare quality- and durability-wise to ETA, Omega, etc. I have serviced ETA movements but not Rolex.
Also, I've spent a great deal of time in Antwerpen teaching hand engraving.

I didn't take offense about what you wrote no worries!
The durability and quality of Rolex movements is unsurpassed in my opinion.
Yes ETA are great movements as well, but the simplicity and ruggedness is what makes a Rolex so great! I don't mind working on ETA's, I actually love the 7750, but I'll rather work on a 3135!
I went to the school in Antwerp (T.N.A.) where they teach hand engraving! I actually wanted to take that course in the evening classes because one of my friends told me how cool it was! (I still wear a ring he made and hand-engraved for me!)

Here is one suggestion if possible. Could we get shots of parts that are failed? In another post you spoke about wear marks - might be interesting to see how bad the wear has to be to be replaced. Just a suggestion :)

I don't have the camera equipment to make those close ups of the worn parts, but I'm sure there are a lot of pics to find on-line.
