Can we find out whether a watch has been polished or brushed?

If a watches case was serviced? Can it be measured on how much steel was polished or brushed off?

If the polishing job was done good, then it's hard to see the signs of it on most parts of the case and bracelet. But where it will almost always show, even if just a little, is near edges. Edges tend to get rounded a bit and lose their sharpness.

I always look at crownguards and the holes on a HoleCase. the holes will usually warp a bit since the fibers from a wheel will eat away at the inside of the hole if you dont watch out. It's tougher to tell on a NoHole case. Same goes for the buckle

Why not put in a spring bar when you polish the case?

It really doesnt help if the spring bars are slightly short. It's just best to carefully polish with a soft wheel versus a hard wheel.

To avoid warping of spring bar holes, must sand first using several different sand papers, or use 3/4" sand wheel, various rubber wheels, and only then an extremely light buff. The result, good as new without even the slightest sign of warping to spring bar holes. Most watchmakers wont do this, and Rolex wont do this because of the time required, the it comes out 100% perfect when done.
