View Full Version : First sign of a problem?

I have a K series Sub Date and was planning to send it to Rolex for the "5 year" service this spring.

Because it runs about +6.5 sec. per day I re-set it to compensate for the time gained every other Monday morning. This past Monday after engaging the seconds hack I noticed that the minute hand was moving ever so slightly off of the minute to which I had set it. Second hand was still hacked but the minute hand was moving just a bit. Once I pushed the crown back in it ran/runs and keeps time as it always has.

Any of our experts know what's going on there?

Should I go directly to service, do not pass go?!?

I would send it in for Service. Do you know when it was last serviced?

Got it pre-owned so I don't know that answer.

I think I may not have pulled the crown all the way out as it only did it that one time and I have hacked it twice since with no "problem".

Going to take it to the RSC in NY later this spring for a COA.

Thanks!

Does the minute hand shake only when you wind the watch backwards?
If so, it may be the friction work on the canon pinion seizing slightly due to lack of lubrication. However this would only account for a very slight shake, not covering several minute markers.

In any case, I would advise technical attention.

Thanks, that sounds a bit like what happened.

When I set the time I first go past then "back" the minute hand to the minute I want it on. When I did that, the second hand, which I had stopped on the 12 marker, backed up slightly. When I let go of the crown the minute hand "crept" slightly forward. Has not done that again , or ever before, (approx. three weeks ago) and it's running fine but I will describe what happened to the tech when I give it to the RSC.
