you don't need DSLR to get good pics.
I promise you that.
It's what the lens sees, and the light.
Master those two and you will NEVER need a DSLR.

I was actually thinking of taking some pics of mine along those exact lines
(luminous in dark, I mean) when I saw my watch this evening in a similar lighting situation.....
