View Full Version : V Series Sea-Dweller Database & Country of Origin

There is endless debate on TRF whether the 16600 has been discontinued and if the 'V' case stamp will be the last to to be released.
It seems universally agreed that a 'V' serial is the exact same watch as a 'M', 'Z', 'D' or any other recent 16600, but if it is the 'last of the line' - let's track what is in the market.
Please include serial (letter and first 2 or 3 #'s) and country of origin.
Example: V109XXXX - UK
This thread is not intended to debate V-serial SD's and their relevance - it is to document what is out there - so play nice everyone!:comeandge

I traded away my "V" serial Seadwellers to an Asian gentleman at the last watch show I went to. He's scoured Asia and told me he had not seen any "V" serial SD's there to date. All mine were V1xxxxxx so it looks like there are some later ones in this post. A friend of mine in the Caribbean just got one in a few days ago. I will ask if he can give me the serial no. for the post.

*One thing I've noticed on the V series SD is that the "f" on the ft/depth rating IS a taller "f" which is noticeable too on the Deep Sea. Anyone care to comment about this?

V 47 Bought new from AD in March 2009.
For the record - I called Rolex HQ in Switzerland to find out if they would continue production in the future - the answer was a stern NO !!
The V is the last batch - I called around AD all over the UK and they are like hen's teeth.

I have an interest in the death or otherwise of the Seadweller and have been compiling my own list. Whilst I am no expert I am regularly in touch with more than 100 UK Rolex AD's and several hundred more throughout Europe
As far as the UK is concerned the last SD's have a V4 serial number and were produced almost 6 months ago.
I have yet to find any AD who will admit to receiving one from Rolex in the past 4 - 6 months.
So although some are still available at the UK list price of £3980(mostly plus a premium to the selling AD), they are now almost 6 months old and possibly older and most likely bought by the AD's at the previous price and now being sold at an inflated price.
So on balance it looks like the SD is dead, production having stopped some time ago, just like the Submariner LV.

are there any 16600 with writings on the rehaux (flange).
I do not believe so, the Vs were the last to be built and have the plain flange.

Bought mine this month in the UK from a forum member - refence is V48?499 can't remember the 3rd numeral but a very late watch IMO. But hey I just love the damn watch - this is the 4th V serial I have had and this one is going nowhere - one of my others was posted on here in June I think!!!

I purchased mine in late Dec of last year from an AD in Virginia. I have the box and papers stored at the moment, so when I can access them I will post the serial number for comparison purposes. The AD told me they had just received the watch (they had it for a few weeks before I purchased - I believe this to be true as I've purchased many watches from them and they have no reason to lie to me). Anyway, my guess (until I confirm for sure), given they'd just received it from Rolex, is it is one of the last ones available...but who knows...

Good evening,
Firstly may I say a huge thanks to Nairn for sticking up for me.
Secondly, I know that I got one of the last SD's delivered to the UK's AD's. It was sent to them on the 7th January 2010( I know this for a fact as I was allowed to see the allocation list from Rolex.) and it had a V4 serial number. The strange thing was that almost 18 months earlier Rolex were sending out the V4's.
So one can only assume that Rolex manufactured a batch of SD's and then sat on some of them for almost 18 months.
As it happens I had contacted 147 UK Rolex dealers in January 2010 and only 12 admitted to having received a new SD. In the rest of Europe I couldn't find any who had had been offerred a BNIB SD.
As ever there was method in the decisions of the Rolex management, as the watch prices had increased from about £3300 (Autumn 2008, to the seriously ridiculous £4070 of January 2010 (as shown in the official dealer price list issued in December 2009, and published on the net by my good self on 29th December 2009.)
So unless anyone can confirm other wise, it looks like the mid V's was an end to the Rolex SD.
P.S. would any Scottish Rolex lover please send me a PM. I may well buy you a drink, if not dinner.............
