Hello, my name is Wolfgang Varela. I collect all different types of Rolex watches. I have been collecting since I was 16. I'm a regular on the other forums (TZ & WN), but wanted to expand my horizons. Anyway, its great to be here and I hope I can help contribute my knowledge to everyone as well as learn from everyone here. Thanks.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm in north Jersey by the George Washinghton bridge, CJ. Let me start by posting my late 50's TT-Datejust. This watch has been in my family since 1978. It belonged to my brother, when he passed away, I got it. I had it completely restored to like new back in 89. One day when I'm gone my son will get it. I will post more pic's of my collection as time goes by, as I'm in the process of updating all my photo's .:bye:

Hi Wolfgang!
I'm new folk as well... welcome.

Interested in hearing your (and everyone's) opinions on/descriptions of these books:

The Rolex Report : by Brozek
The Best of Time:Rolex Wristwatches:An Unauthorized History by Dowling & Hess
Rolex Collecting Wristwatches by Patrizzi

Just ordered the second one...
(sounded pretty good and I enjoyed Dowling's web site ).

THNX!!

Welcome Wolfgang! I guarantee that you will enjoy your stay here as the rest of the members made me feel when I joined a few weeks ago.

Your watch does have memories... as for RSC restoration I thought Rolex always restores watches even vintages?

Thanks everyone once again. Its great to be here. John I would read as much as possible of all those books you mentioned as they are loaded with wonderful history of Rolex watches. You never really stop learning about these marvelous timepieces. Roadcarver according to the USA RSC watches that are over 30-years old are no longer serviced by them as they have run out of key parts(ie: dials, hands, mov't parts, ect.) There are exceptions to the rule, but not usually. Thus your at the mercy of finding your own watchmaker and even worse finding parts. There is also a rumor that Rolex Geneva will come out with a Vintage Center sometime in the near future to restore older Rolex's by making new parts for them and restoring them to factory standards, much like Mercedes-Benz and others have done. I would not hold my breath if I were you waiting for that to happen.

Thanks wolfgang for the insight.

My wife has a 6618 that may need a new dial... hoping that they can still restore it if needed.

... just ordered Brozek's book as well.

Good deal! It is essential reading for anyone interested in Rolex watches, the history of the company, and how to spot fakes (some newer members should have read this book before posting "Is this real or a fake" kinds of questions.
