To a select few a Manual wind Chronometer is the Perfect watch. It's Sole purpose is to tell time. Perfect mechanical time. Now add the functionality of the Perfect case, the great oyster. Now... Lets see some oldies...

After a Bob Ridley overhaul, this keeps time to within about -2 sec/day.

It isn't, but the poster mentioned his is keeping "chronometer" time; mine keeps within about 7-10 sec/day...

Hi Adam. I know it's been a year, but I hope someone will respond. I also have an early Rolex Oyster case ref number 1573. The cases are identical. Where is the serial number on your watch? I can't find one on mine anywhere!

Adam: OK Then! Here is another mine. Bubbleback c.1946.
I guess the dial has been restored, but case and mechanics are all original and working flawesly.
Regards, Abel.

well, not sure we are looking for 'manual wind chronometer' or a manual wind that keep chronometer time :agree:
here's mine: 6422, yr 1956. I was once 'tempted' to have the dial clean, but later decided to keep it as 'it is'
plan to flip a few for a vintage sports... :smokin:

My 6694 Precision. Currently out of COSC (delaying approx 8-10 sec/day), but sure, could be regulated. But I am lazy to send to my watchmaker and could also not imagine being one or two weeks without this watch.

Speaking of chronos, I have a very nice "suisse chronographie" ss manual chrono. Excellent cosmetically, but movement needs work. Jeweler wants $500 for an overhaul. Can I get it cheaper? I doubt the watch will bring that much working.

Speaking of bubblebacks, when is a bubbleback a bubbleback? I've read that it has to be an automatic, i.e., a "perpetual", due to the fatter back needed to accomodate the rotor. Yet I've seen a number of old manual Oysters sold for big bucks(3 figures) on ebay and elsewhere advertised as "bubblebacks."

Is there such a thing as a manual bubbleback?

You do realize that the original post with that particular watch is nearly 10 months old. :read:

I'm not saying it matters, my point is that there is a great likelihood that the member that posted that watch picture no longer visits TRF. He only has 20 posts, the last one being the picture of that watch...........almost 10 months ago. Asking for additional pictures might be futile.

Lets get back to the thread, are there not members out there that have true chromometers that are wind up?

SteelerFan65

The thread is 2 years old! Does it really matter if people put up manual wind watches for fun? I was surprised to see a 2 year old thread even opened back up. What is the harm now?
