Let's plan a TRF Get Together for York, Pa. for JUNE, 2010.
The NAWCC National will be here, and the National Watch and Clock Museum is 40 minutes away.
Let's start planning right now. I expect Jocke, JJ, Bubba, Joe, all the folks who attended the Philly, Kentucky, and all other GTG's , and all the other people who regularly post on TRF to attend. Don't forget, Steve, you need to be here too! All the Mods, that includes YOU!
JUNE 2010. NAWCC Nationals. National Watch and Clock Museum.
Let's do it! :rofl::rofl::rofl::cheers::thumbsup:

Pav: that's great! Meantime, I think that since the Nat'l Watch and Clock Museum(the Museum) is the home of the NAWCC, that we can likely get discounted and coordinated benefits. Also, RGM, a small high-quality manufacturer of watches is in Mt. Joy, Pa., and we might be able to get a tour as they want to sell watches. I doubt we can get a tour of the Rolex School in Lititz, as I think they're off limits to the public. I will continue to push this event as the year goes by....

Hy Dan, If there is any thing I could help you with from Centre County just give a buzz. This event looks like this could be something special.
BTW, Anybody coming here with their wifes, girlfriends, etc. out of the area, If they don't want to spend the day with a bunch of "WISs", Lancaster outlets and all the Amish tourist stuff is just around the corner for them. Should be something for everone.

Jim, I appreciate your offering me a ride to the GTG. (Since you PM'd me I didn't know if it was ok to put your name out there and I automatically am protective of privacy if uncertain.) This does not mean I can't help coordinate events with NAWCC and the Nat'l Watch and Clock Museum. Also, good news is that Blaine Mattison has 18 free tickets and that saves each person about $40.00 admission for 2 or 3 days of the show.

Hi Guys,
I am on my way out but wanted to take a moment to respond to a PM I received today. Given Dan's impending departure, someone requested I coordinate the York GTG. In all fairness, I think someone else might be better suited to do this as I'm not really familiar with the resources in this area and it's been quite a while since I visited. Nonetheless, I am happy to help in other ways, be it contacting people, helping arrange rides, etc. I hope this gets off the ground, and if you guys let me know what you need, I'll do my best to assist. Whatever makes you happiest is great news from my viewpoint, Dan. I asked Blaine if he had any passes left, and I think I'm going to venture across state on Wednesday. OK guys, thanks for all the nice commments.
Questions:
1. Do you want a list of places to stay?
2. Blaine, anymore passes left?
3. I wrote again to Exec. Director of NAWCC to see if we can get a special tour of
the National Watch & Clock Museum in Columbia, about 30 minutes east(towards Lancaster, Pa. and on what day)
4. Where should we meet, and on what day, time?
Best,
Dan
p.s. I realize that we're a little behind on the curve, but I think we still have enough time to plan a GTG at the convention, have a lunch, and maybe walk around the convention for a little bit, and possibly on one of the day(s), do a tour of the National Watch and Clock Museum. This may prove to be too much, but I'm at least going to make inquiries.

I received a reply from Steve Humphrey, Executive Director of the NAWCC, re: tour of the National Watch and Clock Museum. Please give me feedback on your wishes. The Museum is 40 minutes' drive from York. It's in Columbia, Pa. first exit across the Susquehanna River.
Best,
Dan Pell
Since there is a warning at the end of the email from Mr.Humphrey that its contents are restricted to the recipient(me), I will not reproduce the whole note(I'm certain he'd have no objection in any case), but rather, repeat the substance which follows:
With all that is going on with the national and our staff’s involvement. Friday would be the best day with Saturday also being a possibility. Thursday night is the exhibit opening for the Bond watch exhibit and on Friday everyone could see Ian Fleming’s Rolex Explorer model 1016 watch. This is the first time the watch has been seen outside of Great Britain. The tour could include the museum, library and school if on Friday and the museum and library on Saturday.

Okie dokie. I posted some hotels/motels at York on Mike's thread. Do we have an agreement on the date we will meet, and where? And if so, does this include the NAWCC, as I will contact the exec. director. I notice they are holding a bunch of open houses during that week. The National Watch and Clock Museum is worth it, believe me!
Their exhibits and library are awesome! Only a 30 minute drive(max) from York to Columbia, Pa. Let me know your plans! I will post identically at Mike's thread.......

Say, I may have an issue here. I received a guest pass from Blaine today (thank you, Blaine !), but it says that it is only good for Wed 16th and Thursday 17th. (The WWT&C show) Meanwhile, it appears that the bulk of our members are planning to go on Friday and Saturday, and thus I rearranged to allow a drive out to York on Friday. Is this the general consensus, ie Friday ? If so, I can offer the Wed/Thurs pass to someone who is going on those two days. Conversely I can also switch back to Wed. for the drive out.

David:
Looking forward to meeting you!:thumbsup: Just to advise, that to get into the NAWCC National there's a daily fee to get in, or a comprehensive fee for the whole deal, and you might have to buy a membership, and it can become costly...not sure of the exact numbers, but I'll try and get them for you early next week. Let me know if there's anything I can do to facilitate a meeting time and place as i'm a 'local' ......kinda.

[QUOTE=tudorman8276;1805739]...we need to set the DATE time frame of the GTG, list the Motels available with contact info etc and what activities are available on what dates-ALL in one thread so EVERYONE knows what is going on. This way no one has to look at that thread, or that thread, or some other thread for info!
...this needs some FIRM dates and planning NOW...
...Fred and I need to make our lodging accomodations etc!
...otherwise, I fear only a few will be involved in what should/can be a tremendous event.
...we NEED to get the EXCITEMENT generated for this again!!!!!!!!!!
Capt. Stan:
Why you trouble maker you! Ok. I will (again) at sometime in the 'near' future, post motels, dates of the convention, contact NAWCC exec.Director, and report back.

:rofl::rofl: We will pick a hotel that Mike stays in...:thumbsup::thumbsup: Mike what did you find out???:agree::read:
 Me ?? lol Ok, I guess I'll start lol
We were looking at the Hampton inn at York, but it's a little pricey Linkey:
http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=TIV5DREUXLM0ACSGBJC3MQQ?cty hocn=YRKPAHX&WT.mc_id=1HX2RE3Hotel4OneTagSol
But, out of the hotels mentioned by Dan here (I copied and pasted from the "OTHER" thread lol)
2. Motels:
1.Holiday Inn 2000 Loucks road Nearest...to Toyota Center/York Fairgrounds in West York, where NAWCC National is being held. It's 'ok', but nothing to write home about, but a very short drive(10 minutes). Tel 717-755-1966. Not my recommendation, but it is close and convenient.
Room cost is likely to be around $100.00 per night.
2. Country Inn & Suites..not that close, but about 20 minute ride, just off Route I-83
and would be my pick. 245 St. Charles Way, 717-747-5833. My guess is also around $100.00 per night.
3. The Yorktowne Hotel...downtown York, 717-848-1111. Not too far(about 15 minutes), re-modeled, and within walking distance of historic york spots(Lafayette House, Colonial Courthouse) and restaurants(some pretty good ones, too). Downside, is after dark it adjoins some tough neighborhoods. So you need to stay within a confined zone, not unlike many other center cities. Has nice dining facilities. Rooms, maybe $85.00 per night.
$100 a night is probably a good budget for me as of now (we'll be checking in later on Wed. night, and checking out on Saturday morning).
We haven't booked anything as of yet, still interested in what/where u guys would be more likely to stay.
We can always rent a Winnebago LOL

Excellent. It's only maybe 3.5-4 hours for me depending on T'pike traffic, so pretty much any time and any place is OK by me. If possible, I was going to stop in Chambersburg for a hot-dog, but that's very flexible.

Ok. There are two dates I would like to firm up:
1. Our Get together(the formal one).......which day? Time?
at a restaurant? If a restaurant, the best restaurant would be The Left Bank.
But Expensive, but as good as any high-end restaurant in Manhattan($30.00 per person plus drinks, estimated). If a more moderate price tag is desired, let's try Maewyn's, Irish Pub and Bar, or "White Rose Bar & Grill.
2. Tour of National Watch and Clock Museum: Which date(s) are preferred, and morning or afternoon? Or do you want to do this on your own? After I get feedback(hopefully very soon), I will call the exec. director to see what's available for a tour. This place is pretty amazing, and it is east of York, and about a 35 minute ride by car. If we did this, we could go to lunch in Marietta nearby, or at my friend's restaurant, El Serrano, which is pretty amazing in its own right(23,000 sq. feet with a courtyard and fountains, great food).
Let me know!
Thanks,
dan

I need to know how many are coming and what day and time? Friday or Saturday??

So far we have 6 for our GTG on June 18, 2010 @ 7:00 pm at the Left Bank.
If there are more people who want to come I need to know as soon as possible, because at present we can get a table in the window, but max for that is 6 people; more and we must move to an area that can accomodate more people at one table. In addition, they are likely to fill up soon because of all.the people coming into town that weekend.
I note with great satisfaction that the Masters Of Louisville are now reserved and Pac is a 'very likely.' A small but elite Band of Watchmen...

Ok. You guys are out on Mt. Zion Road(Hampton Inn), about 1/4 mile from the York County Prison, where they house about 1000 USICE detainees at any one time, and a place I visit on the average, of about 1x per week. Lovely accomodations, if you like that sort of thing.:rofl:
From Mt. Zion Road, you will go West on Rte 30 over to West York where the Fairgrounds are located and the Toyota Center and Show.....about 20 minutes ride(not very far, but traffic). Take 30 West to Rte 74 Exit(West Manchester Mall), about 7 or 8 miles West from Mt. Zion Rd. Make a left at light at exit ramp...follow 74 south about 1 mile or so, and you will see the Fairgrounds on your right...huge track, grandstand, buildings, not easy to miss. There will be a review class and quiz later on......:chuckle:

I've just booked our reservations for the Hampton !! We ended up getting a great deal ! (Two queen beds, plus a fridge, and a microwave). I checked the prices yesterday, and went back today to check them out again, and it went down by almost $150 !! (for the 3 nights plus the tax). Only thing was you had to pay in advance, so they took the money out ASAP (which is I thought is what hotels usually do anyway when you book a room online ??) , and you get no refunds if you cancel, but I have NO means of backing out this time, so God willing we WILL be there !!) Are you going to the show or the Left Bank?
Show: follow Rte 30 East towards York and Lancaster and Philadelphia....
about 20-25 miles until you will see signs for 462East and Rte 30 East. Follow the bypass Rte 30 East, and go about 3 miles on Rte 30 East until the first exit which is Rte 74. Go right at the bottom of the Ramp...that is Carlisle Road, follow Rte74/Carlisle Road south into town about 1/2 mile and the Fairgrounds is on the right...you cannot miss it...it's huge.
Left Bank Restaurant same directions as above. Follow Carlisle Road, PAST the Fairgrounds(on your right) until you come to a Big T. Go LEFT at the T and that will take you into town on MARKET STREET. Follow Market Street about 2 miles until GEORGE STREET(center of YORK). Go LEFT on GEORGE STREET until Philadelphia Street, go 1 block past Philadelphia Street
on GEORGE STREET(heading north on George) and park. LEFT BANK is on your LEFT.

Hey guys, looks like I'm more than a probably, and slightly less than a for sure. My vacation hasn't been approved yet but I had already put in for M-f of the following week, so all I have to do is add the previous Friday and I'll be all set. If we all stay at the same hote, I'd imagine that we could car pool to the various events from there. Anyone coming from the Cleveland area??????????

Hey Mike:
Only way I got back on was to go to Uncle AJ's watchforum, and get the way on:
http://************/
Anyway, was up at the usual Sunday spot, and talked to some dealers who will be at the show: one guy is interested in your watches(at wholesale) for cash or trade:
David A. Mycko...610-916-6949 ROLXRR@YAHOO.COM. call him.
see you at the show or Left Bank.
best,
Dan

Dan, I don't know if the second half of that message was for me ( I beleive it is, since I think I did say I was pondering the idea of selling/trading my two Omega's, the SMP, and PO for one Rolex).
If that message was for me, please let me know, and I'll give David a call.
And, also, thank you for remembering !!

Well, Craig and I finally got to meet for lunch ahead of the York dinner in 12 days. We each brought our cameras, but forgot we were s'posed to photograph the actual food too ! Fortunately we remembered in time for Craig to get his carrot cake. Oh well...we're novices.
