Today, after some six months of negotiating, the ex-wife of an original mil-sub recipient sold me this lovely 5513 military with links to "6 SBS." The watch had recently been the property of her son.

It joins nine other mil subs in our collection, comprising :
One 5513 from the first "modern" batch, 2 million case number
One 5513 from the first 3 million batch
Two 5513s from the middle 3 million batch
Four 5513s from the final, well known 3 million batch
Two 5517s from the second batch, both being 0552 watches.
This leaves us requiring perhaps only a 5513/5517 dual ref and a first batch 5517 for a REALLY complete set of mil subs. Doh !
A visiting collector-friend suggested that I should cannibalise all my mil subs with sword hands and 60 minute bezels to make up a number of 100% watches, but to my mind the history is too great and it seems wrong for me to b4stardise watches with history like these. The accident of their current form is just where their individual service lives have led them !
We also have two 1950s Submariners with military history, but they are for a different post...
