View Full Version : No longer produced vintage...Let's see them!

I recently have noticed how striking some of the vintage Rolex are that are shown by members. In fact I think that many are more appealing than current production models are. One in particular was a chronograph (posted by a MOD a few days back?) made prior to the Daytona, which I thought was a much better looking chronograph. Also Martin (JDC) has a stunning older Datejust? I think.
Do you know of, or have your own opinions on models which are no longer in production yet outshine their current counterparts. Pics would be nice.

This is about as vintage as you can get. From 1908, the year that Rolex was trademarked.

The 1665 has been out of production for years...and the 16600 met the same fate recently....A pity in my opinion...

Great stuff fellas, Al, that's a great watch to start the thread with. Dan that bezel on the chronograph has got me a little puzzled? Although it's a fantastic looking watch, as they all are. Martins Oysterdate not Datejust as I thought (dimwit), is stunning.
Keep them coming.

Hi there,
I purchased this Air King Date back in 1980 here in Cape Town, South Africa.
Dealers tell me that Rolex does not make Air King with the date any more.
Anyone able to tell me how to get rid of the scratches on the glass?
Thanks

Try Poly watch it works. An Air King Date you dont see many nice!!!!!!

29 August 2009, 03:44 AM
Any light abrasive will work, even toothpaste. But if the scratches are deeper, I use wet sandpaper (mask off everything but the crystal), using as high a grade as will remove the scratch. That is generally 1500 grit, followed by 2000, followed by 3000. At that point, the polishes will finish the job.
