View Full Version : Suggestion – state asking price in for sale posts

I would like to suggest that a policy be put in place where items for sale require an asking price. Most, if not all, of the major sale boards on watch sites require this, and I believe it is a good policy to prevent “fishing expeditions” and basically setting up a private auction for a watch. If the seller wants to auction his watch off to the highest bidder, then there are other places specifically for that purpose.

And yes, the recent attempt to sell an “expedition watch” by Subfiend prompted this suggestion. Although I am not accusing anyone of anything, it would certainly appear that the “for sale” post and the post about values for other expedition watches were related. Whatever the intentions, it certainly had the appearance of bordering on a shill post for his own sale.

I think having a stated asking price is the proper way of handling these items.

Good point.
I was guilty of doing the same thing a few weeks back , when I was on the fence on selling my SS Sub.
At that time, I was prepared to part with it , had a TRF member made me a reasonable offer.
Al, as you know, our Canadian prices are rediculous compared to the US market, so I didn't want to post 2 different prices, or go with a Cdn ( but reasonable ) price, and be out of the US market.
This is not an auction site, you are right.

In addition to Avalon's excellent suggestion, the photo should include a card that states the username used on the board with a handwritten date for which the picture was taken. This way it will let buyers know that the photo of the item for sale is indeen recent.

If memory serves me right, almost all of the ads I've seen on TRF do have some kind of ballpark figure mentioned.

But, yes, I do agree....every item for sale must be accompanied by a price...be it negotiable or not.
