I am curious. Was this through an AD or the Rolex Service Center? It was my understanding that movement parts were included with basic service costs. Replacement parts such as bracelet, crystal, crown and tube, dial, hands, and inserts were additional costs. Of course, that would be on more current references not necessarily vintage 30-50 years old. Next question. If you did take it to your AD can you confirm they did not just use their in-house watchmaker for the procedure, even though Rolex will honor the warranty they provide?
