I would think demand vs supply for specific refs is a very regional thing. In highly affluent markets - thinking NY, LA, Bay Area, HK, Singapore - the 5740 may be harder to get relative to cheaper Nautilus than in less affluent areas.
That said, my (thanks to Patek now former) German AD would have supported your view above. When I wanted to add a micro rotor Nautilus to my 5711 a few years ago they said 5712/1A would be harder than 5740 for demand generally slowing above 50k and a lot again above 100k.
