Seawater does not corrode gold. Gold discoloration and degradation can result from chemicals such as bromine and chlorine, which may be found in high concentrations in swimming pools and especially hot tubs, but not in seawater. Unfortunately, interesting articles about submariners that have withstood decades of scuba diving don't shed light on whether it is wise to wear gold watches in pools and hot tubs. As I said earlier, my gold wedding band has survived visually unscathed by decades of training in swimming pools. However, if I had a gold watch, I probably would not wear it in a swimming pool, and definitely would not wear it in a hot tub. IMO, those are risks with no reward.
