Recommended service interval is ~5 years I believe, but I know people that have gone for longer without issues. It’s like a car in that they're both fairly complex machines with mechanisms that should be maintained and serviced regularly for best performance.

Multi dial is a (flyback) chronograph, meaning it has a stopwatch function that you can use to time things. The seconds hand is smaller at the 6 o'clock position. Single dial is regular time and date, with a moving large seconds hand.
