Maybe Rolex was lazy or just didn't want to spend the money to rethink the dial when they updated the Sea-Dweller. I doubt this, as I believe they are very deliberate in all their design decisions. Rolex might argue that this is a TOOL WATCH and aesthetics, such as symmetry, is a secondary concern. The date window is where it is, because that's where it ended up after designing a simple, reliable movement. It is what it is.
