From my understanding and I forget which issue I read this...it was one of the issues of Watchtime, Datejust came from the phrase "just in time."
This referring to the quick snap snap of the date during a date change....while some watches at the time slowly rotates half way and changes and Rolex was one of the first with the snap change.
