I heard the same thing too.
The name has more to do with the date changing with a snap to the next date.
My Omega, for a modern day watch, changes half way past 11:30 and changes around midnight.
The Rolex stays the same date and snaps....looks more precise that way.
The half way change bothers the heck out of me.
