I'm a longtime member of a photography forum and a few years ago they instituted a "like" feature and it completely changed the feeling and interaction of the site. Now some members are just posting as many random shots as possible to get their "likes" up. There is even a listing of all the top "liked" members and it's obvious many see it as a competition.

The site has degenerated into mostly just posting your photos in theme threads with people especially "liking" posts of other people who "like" their stuff and back and forth it goes. Some people obviously enjoy this type of interaction and I think this scenario lends itself to a photo oriented site more so than some others but overall I'm a NO on the "like" button.
