Omega Seamaster GMT - Did I Buy the right Watch?

Hi,
Currently I own a TT Rolex Sub with a black face that was a present from my wife and have been on the lookout for a SS watch to wear while travelling (mainly overseas and other time zones)
I want a second watch as the TT Sub stands out as a beacon in Asia and other less than safe countries.
Today whilst in the city a major store was blowing out it's Omega stock at 40% off RRP one day only sale as they no will longer be a dealer and want to clear their stock. They had a black Seamaster 300m REFERENCE 212.30.41.20.01.002 that I loved (very classy) and a blue Seamaster GMT REFERENCE 2535.80.00 with the sapphire crystal back. Both watches were set the same price.
I know nothing about Omegas, but at the price these seemed to be bargains so I took the plunge without doing too much research, buying on impressions rather than hard research. Whilst I loved the Black Seamaster, the assistant pointed out that the GMT would be more useful and that the classic blue would differentiate it from my Rolex Sub. It was not at the time my first preference but hey, it’s a nice looking watch and was very comfortable.
So, based on this information I took the GMT as I didn’t mind the looks and the blue is different.
Now to my questions and if these seem dumb please forgive me.
I am really pleased with the watch, in fact I love it but I am wondering
1. if the movement is as good as the latest Seamaster 300m without the complications
2. Is the sapphire crystal back standard or the sign of an older watch
3. Are the GMT as respected as the other Seamasters for reliability, design and desirability
4. Did I get a good deal at paying the same RRP price as the Seamaster 300m and 40% off.
5. Is there a newer updated model planned?
