As a kid I spent lots of time in FL lakes swimming, skiing, wading with alligators. I survived. Didn’t bother them intentionally or feed them, stayed out areas they sun bath and weedy/marshy areas.
They’re everywhere. At some point you stop caring. I’d worry more about wild boar and bears in FL. Bears will trash your cars, garbage cans, or you to get to food.
