Trade Advice

Hi All

I suspect I'll get bias depending on whether I ask this question on the Rolex Forum v the Patek Philippe forum. I'm asking on the Rolex forum because the watch I'm considering trade into is the Rolex 116506, Platinum Daytona.

I have a full set, 2018 Patek Philippe, white dial, 5711 in new condition.

I also have a full set, unworn, 2024 Omega Snoopy 50th Anniversary.

I've not worn either watch. The 5711 is beautiful but seems delicate. I've just never wanted to scratch up the finely brushed case.

I've been offered to trade both watches for a full set, 2019, Rolex 116506, Platinum Daytona with no cash either way.

Would you do it?

No
The 5711 alone is worth swapping, but the Omega in addition makes it lopsided.

Find a member here with a 116506 for a fairer trade.

Had no idea the 5711 was an even swap. Thanks for your input.

Looks to be in immaculate condition. I'm going to assume it's had a polish though seeing as it's being sold by a grey market dealer.

A swap for a Platinum Daytona would be a good thing. The numbers on this deal are way off to me. Shop around a bit and see what else is offered from other dealers.

The market values are equivalent to me - but if you are trading with a dealer, they will discount your 5711 to make a profit on it when they eventually sell it.

Just like the dealer undoubtedly did with the person from whom they acquired the Platona.

That was why I suggested a TRF member might do a fairer trade.

I wouldn’t be doing that trade.
For me the two you have are better than the Daytona

I have a white dial 5711 and definitely would not make that trade.

If you're set on trading for a platinum daytona, the 126506 is much better candidate imo

I agree with this. I think current street on the 506 vs 5711 is watch for watch. You can find a better deal.

Edit: I just did a quick scan, didn't find many of either. It does look like the white 5711 is going for closer to 85-90 and the 506 is in the 95-105 range

I think there are multiple resources to gauge the market value of all these pieces... Cannot just take the numbers offered to you and ask whether its good or not. Check chrono 24, check david SW, look at the actual retail prices... and go from there.

The problem is there is a vast price disparity between UK and USA deals. My observation is that in the UK, I would love to buy the watches I see advertised. I know there is sales tax to pay in the US, but the prices on forums always make my mouth water in comparison to the prices offered by UK greys.

I would trade, the Plat Daytona is a lot more watch than the SS Nautilus, even given the brand premium, and the white dial is not nearly as nice as the ice blue.

Side note - funny you picked two watches with old toilet nicknames, Patek's toilet seat v Rolex's what goes in it.

I’d trade the Snoopy towards the Daytona and keep 5711.
