Double sighting and misconceptions

I was doing some shopping Saturday and noticed a TT Daytona on the proprietor of the shop, as well as a TT DJ(?) w/diamond bezel on his wife. We started talking as they were ringing me up. Their comment was that they aren't the best timekeepers. I told them i was seeing +3s/day on my SD, and +2 on my recent Sub Date. She claimed that her other watch, a YG DJ, would sometimes be 10 minutes off after a few days.

I told her to get it serviced.

I wonder if most of these misconceptions of bad timekeeping are a result of neglect.

They also told me they wanted to get their sons Rolexes as gifts, but they wanted Tags and Breitlings, and thought Rolex was an "old man watch".

Many Rolex owners are not WIS like us. They don't realise that a watch need service every now and then and they are also not aware how precisely a Rolex watch can run if just properly maintained and regulated.

As for the "old man's watch" designation for Rolex watches? Again, some non WIS would say that.

Should've told her it was broken and you'd be nice and take it off her hands for a couple grand.

I'll admit- I used to say that I thought a Rolex was for "Old Men" but, that's back in the early nineties with many guys 40+ (when I was 18 or less) were wearing datejusts on jubilees that were two-tone and looked well, "Old Man" to a young guy.

Todays youth love the bling so, Tag - Breitling - Omega get some more looks

I wonder how much of it is also an affordability thing. You can get Tags and Omegas for much less than the least expensive Rolex.

Tags and Omegas can also be purchased up th 40% off list prices, much more affordable to younger crowd.

"Old mans watch" "poor time keeping" just a few of the Rolex myths.
Some people will never appreciate what they have and how to look after it.
