Open 6 and 9
Quick question. On datewheels with the open 6 and 9, should the 16, 19, 26 and 29 also have the same open 6 and 9?
I've seen some with a closed 26. Thanks |

You mean an open 6 in the 6 and the 16 but a closed one in the 26?

Yes, that's the way they should be, as far as I know. In my search for an original brushed metallic date wheel for my 1680, I saw a couple with the open "26," but most are what you see in this photo. Some 1675 GMT date wheels had open "26s," but they were silver colored/painted, not brushed metallic.

Here's another date wheel, but with an open "26," which I believe was taken out of an older 1675 GMT. It's silver but not metallic like they should be for Subs and Sea-Dwellers.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I was not sure if a closed 26 was right. Now I do!
Thanks |

Both open 26 or closed are correct as long as the rest of the 6s and 9s are open elsewhere.

The original silver datewheel on my circa 1971 1675 GMT Master has open 6, 9, 16, 19 and 29 but 26 is closed.

Does anybody have an overview or a kind of "rule" (e.g.: which one was generally used, which one is a replacement during services, only delivered with DJ or GMT or . . .) available about this open 6,9,16 etc issue??
Unfortunately I have not found any reliable information on that . . . . . Thanks for helping! |

I checked the date on my 1675 this morning and was bewildered by the closed “6” on “26”. I’m glad this thread exists to help resolve my confusion.

My 1978 matte, radial dial, 1675 GMT has an open six on the "6" and a closed "6" on the "26". The wheel is original.

The GMT 1675 was made for 20 years and the date wheel changed several times during the 20 year run.

Would anyone know if an open 6-9 but closed 26 date wheel on a 1972 Explorer 1655 (302xxx), is correct wheel for the watch and period?

Hello all. is there a definitive answer on Date wheels?
Is there a hard and fast rule that ALL Rolex have OPEN 9 and 6 apart from 26, or is it a myth? I've just seen a Perp Date with a closed 9 ? I'm really confused now, please help me. |

No, not all have open 6s and 9s. Modern Rolexes certainly don't. Not even all of the vintage watches have open 6s and 9s (e.g. earlier 1675s). No such 'hard and fast rule', sorry.
