I am now a believer, prices coming down

Noticing some 126610LV’s selling under $14K.
Sure SS Daytona and some other will always be hard to get.
All I have to say is………….YES!

VTNRs and BLNRs are taking a nice little dip too.

Weird that we aren’t seeing a bigger dip in the PM models yet. I guess the used watch sellers aren’t hurting for cash just yet.

With the extent of “the craze” during the Covid years, I honestly thought things would just keep rising indefinitely…it really felt that way. Seeing this now, I believe what many said about “what goes up must come down,” or to that effect. Still, the past experience makes me wonder if it’s possible for that to happen again. We don’t know the future, so certainly any global economic event can have unexpected effects. Still, nice to see more normalcy now.

Haven’t been in the game that long.
When was last time preowned SS Professional Rolex were “slightly” above retail excluding the usual suspects?

2018.
And 2017 Subs, Sea dwellers and Explorers were below retail.

Daytonas have been over retail for 35 years, that I know of.

Daytonas were under retail from 2008 - 2016.

Prices are correcting somewhat (as are stocks)

But Bitcoin is up and plenty plenty plenty of digital Economy dough still out there chasing trinkets to be cool and flex flash on the gram.

It's going to take ALOTTA bad stuff to get Rolex prices and availability to the point many hope it will get too...At that point, whose gonna want a Rolex anyway?

bitcoin is bottoming out and has been rising since 2,3 months ago. may be it's a sign that rolex price will start rising again.

Markets are based on emotion. The product doesn't change but the sentiment does.

That confidence is draining out means prices will continue to fall until confidence returns. Maybe 18 months or so..TBC

Watch for other factors such as house prices starting to rise then the market is turning and the market will strengthen again. (not to covid crisis nonsense levels)

I once thought it would be a good idea for prices to come down then i realised the masses are too deep.

In 2015/16 you could by a SS professional reference in the UK from a reseller at or just below retail.

In 2017 I could have bought an unworn fully stickered Explorer II for £1,000 below retail and I did buy an unworn fully stickered 116613 (black dial) for £7,700. The RRP was £8,750. The more popular SS references were, however, starting to go a bit crazy in the UK by 2017.

There will always be models which as Blue Sky Dweller SS, BLRO (Pepsi), Daytona (Panda) etc that will never sell close to retail on secondary market.

Prices are down as with other hard assets. Higher interest rates have a way of doing that

It's always exciting to find a great deal on a highly sought after watch like the 126610LV. Score!

LVs were never popular before the hype. They collected dust in the AD display case waiting for the local Grey to purchase in a bundle with all the diamond-crusted lady datejusts.

Platinum ones were available slightly used at 60% of MSRP about 7 years ago.

This is when ceramic SS ones were around $17.5 or $18k.

At this point and despite any relatively minor price corrections observed, I have my reservations. There's been so much nonsense thrown at this market over the past several years that I just can't see those days of full display cases and discounted prices coming back. Not any time soon, if ever.
Whether we'd like to admit it or not, Rolex watches have been $$ assets for various cultures and social strata for much longer than many of us have been in the hobby while the social media + crypto have spread the hype globally.
Perhaps people will eventually turn towards other interests at some point, who knows.
Or worse, something may happen that would render the acquisition of luxury timepieces completely meaningless.
But save for the two above scenarios, I just don't see the asking prices really coming down in any meaningful manner.

As we move into the holiday season we have typically seen an increase in prices for desirable models. This typically will abate after the first of the year and as we get close to tax season in the U.S. Watch shows and new releases energize the market in the spring and prices hold or typically increase slightly. Summer vacation time, into fall, they are flat or decrease. Rinse and repeat with some variation on the base prices. Do I want watches to be as affordable as possible for my purchases, yes I do. Do I want the market to provide me maximum dollars on my sales and moves, also, yes. Hard to have it both ways but part of the fun is timing and speculation. Depending on the time line you use you can see some significant swings. In the end, it is about the watches.

Last night on Chrono24, I saw a brand new ss datejust 41 with white dial smooth bezel asking for 15K. I was laughing and offered the seller 8k.
He was seemingly furious, coming back educating me how fresh from the AD this piece is and how sought-after this configuration is.
I was like, dude it's a dj41 stainless steel white dial, I can get it from AD within a week, how the heck do you dare to ask for 15K?

Some people are just illusional. Only market and time will teach them a lesson.

Was offered and turned one down recently. But some won’t adjust to market realities. That said, it goes both ways. Some cannot adjust to an overall reality that there is indeed a lot of wealth (and growth of wealth), even setting aside these cyclical bubbles that expand and contract (pop!) That growth in wealth has outpaced production growth in many aspirational products over a long time. Not in the interest of some companies to work towards changing that… at least not quickly enough to make a big dent.

Wait, why would you waist a sellers time for a watch you had no interest in buying??

I didn't save screenshots of very many things, though I keenly remember buying a mint condition, RSC serviced 16710 GMT Coke from DavidSW in 2012 for $5500. He threw in a black bezel as well. This was my dad's 70th birthday present and he is still wearing it every day.

Don't get me started on the days of buying 14060 for $2500 any day, all day. This was 10+ years ago.

The last watch I bought used below retail was my Milgauss Z-Blue, also from DavidSW in early 2020. It was around $7k. I cannot remember the MSRP at the time, though I think it was around $8k.

Tourneau thinks a certified 116900 Air King is worth $11,650. Keep it. I requested a new one 2 weeks ago.

If call never comes, I'll live. It's not that serious.

I hear ya…. We didn’t think anything would change this dramatically so soon the last 5 years. I am from the days when a no date SS Sub is a $3k watch at the AD all day long.

There is no doubt the crowd willing to pay over retail for a used watch appears to be shrinking.
