Rolex GMT Master 1675 from 1972

Hey there! I have a question and was wondering if anyone could assist me in finding an answer to my question. I tried searching online, but couldn't find a definitive answer. I have a Rolex GMT Master 1675 circa 1972. Everything on the watch adds up and matches what should be on this watch for this year however, the only "weird" thing I see is that the case back is stamped 11.71. Is this correct for this year's model? Would a Rolex that was made early in 72' have a case back stamped 11.71? Has anyone seen this before, or do I have the incorrect case back on my watch? Thanks in advance for any and all input. -Sheldon

You say "circa'72".

You can't get any more circa '72 than 11(November) of '71 - I'm not finding any weird here.

Of course, case backs are interchangeable, but I would ask where are you getting your '72 date from?

11.71 would be weird for sure. Can we see a photo of the inside caseback with that stamp?

Isn't it just the 2nd quarter of '71, not Nov. What's the serial?

Yep. But still, stamped in mid-71 won't make it to the floor for months more.

The point is, dating a completed watch is a guess within a year either way, not the absolutes that we try to make them.

Yes, II.71 would be more normal.

I have a 1675 GMT that I bought from an AD in 1973. Acording to the serial nr. it´s produced in 1972 (you can find the production year from the serialnr on the internet). And it has no stamping in the back.

As noted above, there is no way to accurately correlate the serial number with production/delivery date, so your watch may or may not be from 1972. And without a serial number, we really can't even make an educated case.

This thread has a long list of serial numbers and case-back stamps so the OP can better understand the variability.

There’s no definitive serial number chart on the internet. They are all estimates.

To the op, how did you decide the watch is from 1972? Is that the year it was sold, is that the year it started the manufacturing process, is that the year the chronometer certification was completed, or, is it the year that it was shipped to Rolex USA or the year it was shipped to the dealer? As you can see, many variables may be used to determine what year a watch is.
