1982 Rolex 16800 7.3mil Serial Transitional Submariner Date Matte Dial Vintage Sub

For sale is a very good condition 40mm stainless steel “transitional” Submariner Date. The 16800 is a 7.3 million serial, circa 1982, and does not come with any box or papers, but is accompanied by an unworn aged leather strap. The Rolex features a brushed steel case, which is accented by a unidirectional diver’s bezel, set with a period correct bezel insert. The Rolex is mounted on its original brushed steel 93150 Oyster bracelet with period correct 593 end links, and is secured by a safety lock deployment clasp. The 93150 Oyster bracelet is stamped with a G clasp code, circa 1982, thus the bracelet is most likely original to the watch. The bracelet contains 10 full size links, and will comfortably fit a 7.25 inch wrist. It is worth mentioning, that the bracelet does show some signs of age, and contains a decent amount of stretch due to wear by the original owner. The Sub features a black matte dial with non surround tritium hour markers, polished luminous hands, and a date window aperture at 3 o’clock. The Rolex still contains its original open 6 and 9 datewheel, which adds to the watch’s vintage demeanor. The dial on the 16800 does appear to have been relumed at some point, and the hands appear to have been replaced as well, but the hands do match the shade of the dial. The movement used in the 16800 is the Rolex calibre 3035 which features 48 hours of power reserve, was COSC certified, and keeping accurate time.
Prior to listing, the Submariner passed a 50 meter pressure test, and an accuracy test. Overall the Rolex is in very good condition and the case and bracelet appear to be unpolished, however they do contain a fair amount of surface level scratches, which are consistent with the watches age. It is worth mentioning that all serial and reference numbers are fully present on the case / bracelet and clearly legible.
