Another GMT IIc opinion

Posted this a few months back on a different forum, may be of interest
to some here......

I was always set on getting a GMT but when I went to the AD
they had the Sub LV in stock so I checked it out at the same
time. Did nothing for me at all I slipped it on my wrist and
slipped it straight off again and told the sales lady to pop
it back on display. Is it me or is that green bezel just plain weird?

Anyway back to the GMT, the dial is very easy to read
and the AR coating on cyclops really make it very easy
to see the date with a quick glance. The maxi dial has
bigger markers over the std Sub and SD this also
to my eyes improves the dial greatly.
Lume is ok nothing special.

The case seems quite a bit bigger at the lugs
compared to both the old style GMT and the Sub
the case is listed as 40mm but wears bigger due
to the beefier case, again a big bonus for me as I
do like a big watch and the others felt lighter and
smaller on the wrist. This weighs in at 146g with
two links out and sits at around 12mm high, feels
taller though. Don't know why?

The Bezel, not much to say here, it's a work
of art

You can see the beefier lugs clearly on this
pic, some think it looks too big v's the 20mm bracelet.......

Some comparison shots against other watches

The setting off the watch is very simple once you
have read the manual, previous owners of GMT's
wouldn't need to read it I would guess.
Timekeeping so far is around -1 per day so well within spec.

One of the most impressive features of this watch
for me is the bracelet and clasp, I have read all
about, and handled plenty of Subs with the old
'tin' style, but this one is absolutely top notch.
When you clip it in, it really sounds and feels
solid, there is plenty of adjustment without having
to shift springbars about, a really neat design IMO
As for the polished links I love the look of them, I
really do but, I know they will probably look like crap
in two weeks time but I'm used to the polished look
having the Evo which is full polish so hopefully it
won't upset me too much..........air will mark
this bracelet I'm convinced of it

Marked it getting the sticker off!!!

The fit and finish is very good as you would expect,
but I wouldn't say any better than Omega or Breilting, I
think all of these watches are of very similar
quality and all first rate. The watch is very
comfortable on the wrist and the easy adjustment
makes it all the better for when you get a bit
sweaty, I've had to let the bracelet in/out
many times.

All in all I am very impressed with this watch
and It's a 100% keeper (we've all said
that before) the only negative comment I have
is that the bracelet squeaks a little

A great review and pictures, thanks for posting
The GMT is next on my hit list...

And it wouldn't be a Rolex without a little squeak or rattle

Cheers

Great pics and review. I admit that it took me a while to appreciate the GMTc, but now it's a keeper for sure. Enjoy your GMT!

Excellent review. The comparison shots really show that it does appear larger than 40mm.

Great review, and great pics!

I like reviews that intersperse the text with the photos...makes you want to read all of it. I guess sometimes we're like kids - need pictures to hold our attention.

Nice shots and great read. I have to agree about the Clasp it is truly amazing. I use the easylink adjustment daily I never realized how much my wrist size changed from morning to night. I personally enjoy the Bezel and the 24 rotations over 3 ceramic ball bearings. Not a big fan of the irritating clicking…

Hi Rolex Fans ;oD
Paula here in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Great review. I am shopping for my third Rolex. There is nothing better. The GMT-Master II is my favorite!!! How about putting some "Super Lube" synthetic oil with PTFE on the clasp. I tried it, silky smooth and no more squeaks! Nice feel!!! The squeaks mean the metal in the links is wearing away and will eventually make it looser. Maybe every 6 months? It will keep the clasp links nice and tight to reduce rattle. Probably ought to keep the oil out of the bezel, at least when the watch is new. But I don't see how it could hurt it. The existing lube in the bezel is good enough when new. If the oil is in the bearing, first, then perspiration won't flow in and dry, leaving corrosive salts. What do you think?

Hi Rolex Fans ;oD
Paula here in Phoenix, AZ. I am shopping for a GMT-Master II Steel & Gold #116713LN. Unfortunately, all 5 of the ones I have looked at new in the Jewelers have had a warped Easy Link, making the bracelet come out of the clasp at an angle when the Easy Link is snapped closed. It should be straight. I have another one ordered straight from the Rolex factory, and I hope the Easy Link is straight. It's a factory defect, and shouldn't be there at $10,350. SR. Read my Post about this in the Rolex Watch Reviews. I may just have to live with it. What do you think about this? It is only on the Steel & Gold model.

New to this forum, and to Rolex. I am doing a lot of research, and absolutely love the GMT IIc. I was even more impressed, when I learned that it has the new hairspring (can't remember the name), along with the Milgauss and Sea Dweller. Pardon me, if I don't get these names quite right, but give it a bit of time.
Anyway, to my point after all the rambling: Your shots of this watch are absolutely breathtaking! The one with the closeup of the Cyclops date window, I almost had to touch my screen to make sure it wasn't real! And that ceramic dial is unbelievably gorgeous, and the polished middle links in the bracelet really accentuate the shiny bezel as well. Thanks again for the wonderful show! I am going to a Rolex AD this weekend, for my first serious look at Rolexes. I hope he has this model.
Cheers,
Carl

Cool watch, great pics and teriffic review; wear it in good health!

I had a squeaky band on my new GV and, following TRF comments, I took a shower and sudsed up the band real well. As promised, no more squeaks.

I think this is a better fix than any kind of oil based lubricant no matter how fine the lube. Oil does tend to attract and hold dust/dirt causing abrasion.

The 116710LN is without a doubt the best looking timepiece that Rolex has ever slung guts into.

great review and nice pics!
I know I'm in the minority here, but I just can't get past the polished links. It was one of the main reasons I sold my YM a well. I have a smaller wrist and the Sub LV it my choice because green happens to be my favorite color. I just closed a deal on a pre-ceramic "old style" GMT M II.

Enjoy the IIc. It's awesome nonetheless. I will miss the rehaut engraving and the 3186 movement that I enjoyed in my Exp II.
