Social Media

Anybody here ever quit or take a timeout from social media? Whether it was for two weeks or forever? My wife and I got fed up and decided to avoid Facebook for a multitude of reasons, lack of civility being a big one. After a couple weeks, I returned and you know what, I'm close to deleting it completely. I was gone for two weeks and i didn't miss it one bit.

Facebook is becoming a chore. It's not supposed to be a drudgery. If it is that then it's very very close to "no more". I'm probably not even sure that this is a good thing or a bad thing. Only that it's not the SAME THING. You are definitely on to something, whatever it is. Let's call it the NEXT thing!

I don't do social media, except for forums.

I have a facebook account, but it has never had any activity.

I just use it for signing into other sites, so I don't have to register.

It's there to work for me, not me for it.

A new app let's you find photos of any particular individual in the background of any posted photo on the web. Think about that for a minute. Anyone who has shot a photo with their phone, and posted to the web, you can now be identified, even if you were just in the background--and you don't get to explain the context of what you were doing at the moment (assuming you posted a photo of yourself on Facebook, etc. with a name, such that the software can work).

So yes, I generally treat social media as something very dangerous to your personal brand long-term, and I avoid except careful posts of information to Twitter and Linked In.

Another app promises to remove the anonymity of the web by tying posts back to particular individuals, removing the filter of "forum names" or "alias". And the search is can be retroactive to anything one has posted on the web.

It will soon be a brave new world in social media, IMHO.

Having lived in a couple of countries initially I loved Facebook. Now it's becoming more and more charged, and being othwise busy, I'm there maybe once a month, and that would be often. I look a bit more at instgram, it even I post little, despite working in the visual field. But I do admit, that with great fun, I participate or at least read here daily, besides my mtbr.com Fatbike obsession....

Social Media

It is getting depressing. I know people have opinions, especially regarding politics, but it gets tiresome and/or gets me angry. It is why TRF bans controversial topics and why we can feel like TRF is a place we can come and talk about a common interest (or two).
Trouble is that FB can't be beat for keeping in contact with old classmates, etc. just scroll through and block a lot of negativity these days

My social media 'interaction' does not go pass TRF. None of the social media outlets ever interested me. I feel people have becomes confused with where their private life ends and their public life begins. Too many people divulging personal information and many others interested in 'digging' into your life. I feel it's best to avoid it altogether.

I have no social media besides LinkedIn which I actually use for networking. There's so much noise on social media and at the end of the day it's not very healthy. TRF is all I have and really its more than enough.

Never had a FB account and probably never will.

TRF, LinkedIn, and a couple car forums for me -- that is about it.

For me, TRF gets addictive. I have to put myself in "time out." Otherwise, I'm constantly obsessing over the next acquisition.

I can't stand facebook. Most frivolous content and a massive invasion of privacy. Have an account but never login for years. My only social media is my IG.

Friends, relative keep asking me to join FaceBook, albeit set with code entrance to profile, just so can share pictures from 1,000 to 3,000 miles away. I am reluctant to do that, mainly for ID theft or any of the shady stuff we hear can happen. I have told them to send me pictures by email or mail. But that is too inconvenient for them because of their busy lives, they say.
And then other friends back home, have voiced they are cancelling out, as several of you stated above.

How busy do you have to be to not have time to send an e-mail.?

I waited years beyond the Face Book craze and finally signed up about a year ago. It lasted about two weeks before I disabled the account. It was overwhelming with the friends requests, photos and opinions. I did pick up Instagram which for me is a better version of Face Book with pictures. Many of our TRF's are there with some great photos.

Like so many things in life, facebook is being taken over by the obnoxious few.
Used to enjoy keeping up with what relatives and old friends were doing, but recently, the endless clutter of reposted political opinions has kept me away.

I deleted my Facebook account 3 years ago and the only thing I can honestly say I miss , is seeing what distant relatives or friends are up to. The rest of the experience was starting to wear on me.

I recently opened an IG account and find it to be more positive. Less about narratives and more about experiences.

Never had FB or similar ones. My only media activity is TRF and WUS. I'm very happy not needing anything else!!
I'm still using email to contact friends or business!

I've been against Facebook since day one. I've never signed up even though all off my family and friends have accounts. Even the private sections are too public for me. It seems like everyone is having a perfect life and always on vacation etc. too much fakeness for me.
