The grey market is selling cheaper than list price. What does this means? It means to me. I can ask discount from AD if I want to buy it. Am I right?

No tax refund like in Europe. Taxes are not included in the price of the watch. Taxes are levied by the state you purchase in. You could buy and ship to your hotel in another state and then the burden would be shifted to you to report it or go home.

Yes of course you can ask for a discount. No clue as to your odds of getting it.

Brian in the US I can assure you that you won't get a discount. It is an application piece and I know of serious collectors who waited over a year for just the chance to purchase at FULL PRICE. If a good price is what you want your best move is to see if Jamie will allow you to prepay at the current U.K. price and wait. The piece is significantly cheaper in the UK with the exchange rate and VAT refund

You can ask anything of anyone.

You may or may not like the answer.

But you can ask.

Does US local customer has to pay state tax on top of list price?

I did not pay attention to 5370P when it announced. Jamie said it is not available this year. Do you know which year was 5370P announced?

Paul: You already give me the answer. No discount is possible. Jamie said no discount too. I am not to ask cheaper price. Just want to understand how the US market is? Maybe it is way to say hello to US AD and helps me to get NY exhibition special watch. It just my idea. Maybe not working. Who knows?

Am I the only one surprised by the perceived availability of this reference? I mean I know some of the Chrono24 listing are from dealers who do not actually have the watch, but I have seen 3 listings fairly recently from folks who I am pretty certain have the watch in hand....

LOL. In US we ask for discounts. They may tell you to leave, but we ask :-)

Don't think one piece will get you much in the US Brian--but maybe. It's nice to tell them of your other pieces, but that money didn't go in their pocket.

Lot's and lot's of US VIP's higher on the list.

BUT asking is free...so do it.

For a watch at this price level, you have to understand that ADs make a huge profit. So there is obviously room for discounting. Whether the AD offers a discount or not depends on a lot of factors.

In all financial transactions, the final sale price is about the negotiation. Does the AD have the bargaining leverage or does the collector have the leverage? If the collector is a huge collector, he can probably order an application piece from any AD. Just as casinos want to attract the big "whales", ADs want to attract the mega collectors. So ADs will offer gifts and invite their VIP clients to special events, etc. This is all part of the AD-client relationship. However if you are a relatively unknown collector, the AD can easily play games with you as well.

If someone doesn't want to wait for an application piece and don't care about having one's name on the Certificate, it is usually quicker to purchase a watch like the 5370P on the secondary market.

Yes. The general rule is if the customer picks up the item from the store he or she has to pay sales tax. If the item is shipped to a different state where the store doesn't have a physical location then there's no sales tax at time of purchase.

I think US has too many richer people. I full understand what you mean. Maybe AD stops to conversation with you when you ask for discount for 5370P.

I ask 6002G from Jamie. He said MD doesn't take any more customers for three years. Maybe you will think what is going on there.

My God. Tax is on top of the list price. I think US customers pay much more than European customers.

I even do not know 5370P is a such hot watch to get. Maybe I did not pay attention in the past. Now maybe a little too late to ask for it. Will 5370P discontinue next year?

I visited Taipei 101 AD for the first time. I got offered 5131R after conversation with the manager. Only thing the manager asked me is to buy 5271P and another perpetual calendar. I think it is not a bad deal for me for the first visit.
