How does one pick-up an AP?

Hello,

Curious how one picks an AP up from the Boutique once they are lucky enough to get the call?

Do you put down a deposit / pay in pull prior to going to the boutique? Do they hold the watch for you for a maximum amount of time after you pay?

Thanks

Pay by transfer or card on or before collecting. I know at least 2 friends where AP said they could only hold the watch for 1 month after payment due to insurance.

Usually you'll get contacted that your watch is going to be arriving in the next few weeks. You'll have to transfer money (in my case it was the full amount) by bank wire and then wait patiently to be told your piece has arrived at the boutique for pick-up.

Not sure what the "holding" policy is but I am sure 4 weeks or so is plenty to get it... Good luck!

I see, thanks both for the responses.

Assume CC payments are not permitted?

There’s a box to check for each payment type on the invoice and credit card is shown as one of the options.

Pick up in person.

I got an email saying someone passed on it and that it was now offered to me. They said they would hold it for me for a week; I told them I’d take it and I’d fly there the weekend after next. Flew out 9 days later and picked it up.

Damn, I bet that “someone” pissed off his SA badly. Maybe he complained about the SA on public forum. Lol

Congrats.

Got pics?

Went in an paid in full with a credit card. Since I paid full MSRP, using a credit card was fine; when I get a discount, usually I have to pay by wire to save the merchant credit card fees. I have yet to buy a watch so expensive that I can’t put it on a credit card, but if I did - I would wire funds and ask the merchant to offer me a wire discount since I’d be saving them credit card fees. They’d likely say no, or maybe spit the saved credit card fees, and either would be fine in my book.

My first purchase I was asked to wire. All others are CC and they are happy to ship as well.

May I know more about the engraving process? How does that work, I assume it is on the rotor ?

Not on rotor. Outside of caseback, where crown is.
Ask your SA for options. Basically, anywhere outside of watch.

You can probably pull a “Blancpain” and engrave opposite of crown

Not sure about AP but I have had Patek hold a watch for me for over 6 months in 2019. I had paid for it of course.

Currently I have a Rolex with my AD (paid for) which I wont collect till August.

They didn't have any issues with it.

I received a call that my watch would be arriving in about a week, and then an invoice was sent closer to its delivery and I had to wire the amount in full. I was told only first purchases must be via wire, once a relationship is established a Cc is ok.

Out of curiosity - why wait until august? Seems like a long wait.

My first AP, I went there with a stack of cash, paid and left with the watch.

My other watches paid using a cc and got it same day as I got the call/Whatsapp.

Sorry should have clarified. They are holding the Rolex as its a birthday present for my son. The watch arrived way earlier than I expected. We always do surprise birthday presents and it saves me trying to hide it or keeping it somewhere safe for months.

Similar situation on the Patek but that was for my wife.

All Dads have issues. Facing them and correcting them make us Dads. Else, just dudes.

I’ll see you and Mom on Xmas.

The last AP I received I had it shipped to my door. 25-% down and remainder on shipping.

For my one AP purchase, I got the call and was told the watch came in that day. I went to the boutique that afternoon and paid by credit card.

Sounds exciting ! First time I really heard about this.
I am also a bit surprise to found that I am the first client in my AD to engrave on my PP 5227 Officer's caseback.

The first time pay by wire thing is odd to me. I wasn't asked to do that and I would have been miffed to miss out on the CC benefits.
