1016 Chapter Ring

Is it normal for gilt 1016s to have very white hour markers?

Can you post a photo that is in better focus. The markers look very sloppy to me, but before I jump to conclusions, I want to make sure it's not an artifact.

I agree that it looks sloppy as well

They look blobby sort of ironic considering the OP’s handle.

The image is a screen shot of a shop’s social media account. Is it with the forum rules to post a link?

The reason I ask is that I saw the watch in person some time ago and I felt like it wasn’t right but I don’t have the correct knowledge or skill to make a proper assessment.

I have thought about it since and don’t think I’ve seen another gilt dial in person or online with really white markers.

Have you seen a gilt dial with really white plots before?

Is there something else putting you off it?

Hard to really call it from the photo... but my 'gut' is telling me that someone has been busy with a paintbrush.

Just my initial take though... as I say (write) the photo really isn't good enough - ask for some close up shots maybe?

It may well be sold. I’m really asking to understand things a bit more.

It was for sale in the Burlington arcade and had a back story including bullets which felt odd too.

The only image is on their Instagram account.

Ah! The 'tourist trap' arcade... I tend to avoid that place.

You can post an IG link. IMO, if you are asking people on the forum for help, the least you can do is to provide good photos and info. Nobody likes to commit to providing an opinion based on garbage data.

I certainly wouldn't buy it based on that one tiny photo, the lume doesn't look good at all. If the seller claims that it's ok, I would have to ask for better photos.

It’s a piece I viewed in person. The lume didn’t look right and I asked various points about it and got some sketchy answers in the shop. The bracelet was a later one and I was told something like they still had the original which had bullet damage (maybe I misheard). It was apparently owned by someone who was in the military.

It was a weird experience and I have thought about it since. The one point I was particularly interested in is if gilt dials ever have white plots of this sort of colour (I haven’t seen any like that).

I’m sorry the photo is not very good. I’m not going to waste their time asking for photos for something I wouldn’t buy. However it there are any other aspects that look wrong on this piece then it would be interesting to know if I missed anything obvious. I realise the photo may prevent this.

Thanks

In my experience, that color wouldn't be common in a gilt 1016. However, the lume color depends a lot on the conditions that the watch has experienced and the particular lume formulation from the year the watch was produced, and also on photo processing, so I don't like to draw conclusions from the color in a photo alone. I would prefer to look closely at the lume itself, maybe expose it to UV if possible, etc.

Thanks. That’s very fair.

Certainly photos can make things look odd.

I didn’t view it with a Loupe or UV light. It was really white though. The kind of colour that if you said to the dentist I’d like my teeth to match my watch they would try talking you in to something more natural.
